Being from the Balkans myself, i was very disappointed once i heard his voice.
That's not how we sound at all. That, my friends is a thick, heavy Russian accent.
I was convinced that he was Russian even though the name, however inaccurate the spelling may be, implied otherwise.Wtf Rockstar?
Apparently some shmuck named Bruce Kronenberg voiced him.

You want good examples of Bosnian,Serbo-Croatian accents?
Search Youtube for Rade Serbeghija or Goran Visnjic for example and you'll see what i mean.
I Am just a bit that they couldn't find somebody more authentic to voice him.
You'd expect better with the budgets they got.

Not everyone has a thick accent.

Who cares about the accent if you're not Balkan? :D

/hide

It's best for me thinking he's Russian.

How dare a piece of visual media misrepresent russians with stereotypes and innacurate accents.

>_>

Heh, I'm from the Balkans too. I see your point, but i've got used to that Serb-Cro-Russian accent merging so far, as i've seen numerous movies with such issue, and haven't been expecting nothing more of this game. Haven't played the game yet, but I'm totally surprised that Niko is Yugoslav - is he mentioned as Serb, Cro or simply Yugoslav?

They should've put Yugo in the game

Da stave yuga, niko je ne bi ni igrao!

He's not specifically mentioned as coming from a particular country or ethnic group prior to the games release but from the 'former eastern bloc' countries which could mean any of the former Warsaw pact countries (Not yet played the game so cant comment if his origin is expanded upon). However players have worked out that the characters name is Balkan in origin and that Niko makes mention of a war so its not hard to work out that he's from a former Yugoslavian country.

You may have noticed, beacuese the recent Kosovo situation the popularity of the Serbs hav gone down...I mean have you ever seen a Croat,Bosniak or a Montenegrin in a tv show(24) or movie (dunno what movie...but there is one) portraying the bad guy? No.So it is most likely that Niko is Serbian.

Who give a crap, we can understand what he says and thats all that matters. The voice acting a timing is the best Ive ever seen in a game

Yeah, his past seems to be a bit "blurry"*(yeah, that's a pun) as well as his ethnicity.
I haven't played the game much, but apart from being from the Balkans i doubt that his actual ethnic background will ever be revealed. It would probably offend some people.
His last name though suggests that he is either a Croat or Serb.

Anyway...sorry for being so anal about the accent.

Koliko vas balkanski supcica ima ovde?

Yes how convenient. And since he is from a non specific east European country let's give him a russian accent because everyone knows were all russians over here right?:dozey::rolleyes:

Yeah... on the other hand we romanians have risen in popularity in the roles of random drug dealers/mobsters/terrorists in movies which I find hilarious but whatever....

He's likely Serbian. Early on in the game, when you walk into Roman's depot, Victor goes 'And speaking of god damn Serbs...'
or that of some kind. So, I would assume he's serbian.

Speaking of his own people with disrespect - yeah, he's a Serb. :) I'm not sarcastic. :P
And yeah - the recent Kosovo n' stuff popularity might have had some influence...

Hey, you have Dracula! Live the Serbs with their political image. ;)
Heck, why do I complain - I'm half Romanian! All my friends call me Tsepesh :D

Da stave yuga, niko je ne bi ni igrao!

Nisam video ljude da se bune zbog Vrane ili Die Hard III. U DH, Samuel L. Jackon cak hvali Yugo i kaze da nije pravljen da bude brz nego ekonomican... :cheese:
Balkanska braca. Poz.

I think a lot of the people in the game are idiots too, and are always making stupid slurs about where he's from. So I'd take anything said by them with a grain of salt.

It says on the wiki that he's serbian. But I guess it's not totally accurate...
