The state of New Jersey has passed a law that will require all drivers under 18 to have a decal on their car. This sticker is four dollars.

New Jersey drivers younger than 21 will pay $4 for a pair of license plate decals they'll be required to display starting May 1.

I haven't personally seen them, but there red and reflective.

They're designed to help police identify vehicles operated by teenage drivers so officers can enforce restrictions on passenger limits and a night driving curfew.

And why are they doing this?

The decals are required under "Kyleigh's Law," named in memory of a 16-year-old central New Jersey high school student killed in a car driven by another teen in 2006.

And how much did it cost?

Division of Motor Vehicles said Monday it has awarded a $664,000 contract

Forget improving New Jerseys shitty, pot-hole infested roads, we need GOD DAMN STICKERS BECAUSE I WASN'T BORN A TWENTY-ONE YEAR OLD. This state blows.

Something similar exists in Japan, and all the tuner guys here think their stickers are badass -

I wouldn't mind it if they looked like that, but they wont.

Young people get into a shitload more accidents due to cockiness and inexperience. My younger cousins have gotten into a ton. They keep totaling vehicles. I'm just glad they're still alive after the accidents they've been in.

**** young drivers, they should pass this law nationwide so I can be wary of ****ing idiots.

What would a sticker do then? It may make other drivers cautious but it wont stop a teenagers cockiness and invincible feeling. Honestly, raising the driving age would've been a better route if they want to prevent accidents.

@DEATHMASTER - Even if you spot all young drivers, there are a ton of idiotic drivers on the road, I honestly believe a sticker would be more distracting, other drivers would stare at it and not pay attention to the road.

QQ, in BC you have to wear this shit 3-4 years.

Here, drivers under 25 have different insurance laws. Makes sense.

Young drivers are ****ing retarded and should have their cars painted fluorescent pink.

Good law.

LOL

You could say that about numberplates, or female drivers...

It's thanks to shitty young male drivers that I've had to pay much higher insurance premiums than my fiancée. Thankfully this will be the last year for that.

What age is that? 25 or 26? I'm turning 25 soon and hopefully the insurance will go down for me.

Good. Next time, just take away their driver's license until they are 30.

I really hate middle aged women drivers the most. they go like 30 mph in a 40, they suck at not sharing the road, and more than half of them drive in the fast lane plus its just them in like a hummer or Lincoln Navigator....which are obnoxiously large

One thing that really irks me is when people speed through parking lots.

Nobody here in Texas seems to follow the speed limits. Everybody is always going 5-10mph above the speed limit. Some even 15-20mph over.

I mean I'm fine with the occasional speeder, but when people who actually obey the speed limits are the rare exception, it's kind of annoying.

Like holy shit dude, aren't you a little concerned about this winding city road we're driving down that is bumpy and rough, with your car bouncing around like a ****ing rally racer? No... of course you're not, you're concerned about being late for work because your dumb ass couldn't wake up and leave a bit earlier than usual.

People are just going to be assholes and **** with people with those stickers on. Bad law.

The answer it all road safety problems is to make everyone drive tiny Japanese cars from the 70's, because your going to drive responsibly if you constantly feel like your about to die.

Having said that there are like 300 road deaths here a year, which is nothing compared to most health problems. Surely this energy would be better spent stopping people smoking or drinking.

just prohibit them to drive cars all together

and make them use horses

I don't care either way since I'm almost 26 but I'm not against it. Seems like a piece of legislation someone proposes just to get into office.

How about we lower the drinking age and raise the driving age? Meet somewhere in the middle.

At least here in NJ, if the driving/ drinking age were closer together, there would be A LOT more drunk driving deaths. Everybody under 23 just wants to get shit faced and look like a gang of retards. The always succeed.

I don't get why they don't force the elderly to have a sticker, they drive slow as shit. And while were at it, Asians and Indians. Not all teens can't drive well, and instead of making one group of stereotypically bad drivers stand out, why not make them all?

Agreed, only because I know if I was stuck behind a shitty driver with a sticker I'd make their ride as miserable as possible...safely, of course.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with this law.

Same. **** young drivers. In my area, we have the most problems with stupid teenage girls that are always not paying attention, texting, or talking on the phone while driving. I'm not excluding boys- there are still bad teenage boy drivers around here, but not as bad as the teenage girls.

Guy I knew in high school died because some dipshit teenage driver plowed right through him without looking at a pedestrian crossing. Somehow doubt some shitty sticker would've done much to prevent that.

That said, I'm generally in favour of tougher driving laws to prioritise safety over driver freedoms, assuming they do actually help. Driving age was just raised from 15 to 16 here, which I'm all for, but then kiwi drivers are pretty awful in general (specifically with drunk driving) which is why the government's had to pour millions into ad campaigns and the like. They're changing the right of way laws at intersections too because... honestly, they're confusing as christ.

Boy I can't wait till I get my license. :V

What kind of right of way laws do you have that are confusing there?

Jesus ****ING christ I know what you mean. Dipshits really have no idea. Shouldn't be allowed to drive.

Give way to your right, basically. The problem is no one seems to know when specifically to do this since there are a bunch of conditions on how you should approach intersections, how to indicate, all kinds of rubbish that no one bothered to learn since we don't have to resit or anything. This is just my general impression from driving with other people since, as I mentioned, I still don't have my license. :bonce:

Anyway, suffice to say people are bad enough about it that they had to make this:

If I wasn't able to drive I wouldn't have a job so screw you guys who are saying 19 year olds shouldn't be allowed to drive.

25 from what I've heard.

25 it is. Mine just went down.

Also, WAAAAHHH I GOTTA PUT A STICKER ON MY CAR. Be glad you don't have to mount a camera so your parents can watch you 24/7.

Heh. Whenever I see these ****ing Student Drivers, I always try to get away.

I drive without a license completely (well a beginners) by myself and I drive as safe as possible - I never speed, I'm an extremely defensive driver.

All my friends with licenses - EVERY ONE has been in an accident though and I've been driving just as long. Only 'accident' I've been in is when I hit a deer, and even then I was going 30 under the limit (it was really icy, limit was 50), and thats not really something you can avoid anyways.

It's true it is cockiness and arrogance in young drivers, but to penalize all of them for a few idiots is just idiotic itself.

And while I'm at it: That law that only lets drivers with a certain number of years experience drive 1 person is stupid. I always drive my drunk friends home there is no way I'm letting them drive alone, I'd gladly take a ticket for not obeying that law.

Lol at all the angry oldies in this thread. Don't take it out on us because your reflexes are shit and you're drying up.

Haha, just try and stop me driving like a pro.
Morans.

Australia stuff.

If you are driving with a learner’s permit you need to display L-plates on the vehicle to warn other people that you are an inexperienced driver.

L-plates must meet the following requirements:

* The minimum size is shown in the diagram. L-plates must have the letter ‘L’ painted in black on a yellow background.
* L-plates must be clearly visible from the front and rear of the vehicle (rear only for motor bikes).
* L- plates must not be displayed on the vehicle when the driver is not a learner driver (except when a licensed driving instructor is driving to or from a lesson).

If you are driving with a P1 provisional licence you need to display P-plates on the vehicle to warn other people that you are an inexperienced driver.

P-plates must meet the following requirements:

* The minimum size is shown in the diagram below. P-plates must have the letter ‘P’ painted in red on a white background.
* P-plates must be clearly visible from the front and rear of the vehicle (rear only for motor bikes).

Sure they're annoying for like 5 seconds when you have to buy the things and place them in your vehicle. But err so what?

I'm glad someone else noticed this. I used to drive the speed limit, but now drive something like 3 mph above it just because there's insane pressure from everyone else to drive faster. People still pass me a lot though.

People go through red lights a lot too. Once I was about to cross an intersection next to school that has so much pedestrian traffic that they devote an entire 25 seconds of two-way red lights to let people cross, but some idiot in an SUV zoomed through it really fast, well after the walk symbol came on, something like 3 to 5 seconds after their light had turned red. That's the closest I've ever gotten to being hit by a car.

We also have a lot of road rage. I have never personally felt road rage while driving, so it always shocks me when someone driving starts getting all pissed off, usually over nothing. I can't tell if it's some kind of social expectation to act like you have road rage and they're just talking crap to seem cool or something, or if they're actually that angry.

Anyways, on the original topic: dude whatever it's just a sticker.

parking lot lane hogs and selfish drivers piss me off the most. also, pedestrians that think its ok to walk in the middle of the ****ing road like they own that shit and stop all cars advancing until they move the **** out to the side.

Mother****ers!

My cousin had four other people in the car, including me, after hours and he got pulled over by some cops suspicious of his age. Having the sticker implemented would in fact stop this confusion.

He does look young for his age.

LOL

A woman driving a car?

The kazakh way says she is asking for a sexual assault doing that

And everyone here sounds like a crotchety old dingus, yes theres roving bands of teens everywhere looking to run you over:eek:
