No Internet

hey guys, having looked through many many threads on this forum and others, ive decided to finally post and ask for help.

My problem is this, ive been reading all about the authentication and verification problems that people have been having with the offline thing, well im going to take it one bit further. Im a student at uni and dont have the internet at all in my house, an can only use it in the uni computer suite, my question is this, will i have any problems with being able to play the game? i bought the game yesterday after looking forward to it for so long but was unable to install it due to the 1334 error (which il come onto later). Now im considering taking the game back, but as ive been looking forward to this game for so long, am a little reluctant to.

My other problem, as ive jus said, is the 1334 error about the 'halflife_2_base_content.gcf' cannot be found in the hl23.cab. ive researched into this problem and have found a few answers about how installing CS:S will resolve this, however im sure that i tried this last night and still failed in getting the game to install.

Are there any other solutions that have been thought up of that i may not have found so far?

I would be very greatful for any help you can all give me, im off to a lecture in a few mins an will check back in 2 hours, so the quicker the replies the better for me, otherwise i will have to come back into uni 2moro when its a day off

Wait, do you have Half-Life 2 and CS:Source on a Uni computer (the one with the internet connection) or did you install it from the DVD on to your home computer?

The version on the DVD isn't the complete game! You'll need an internet connection to download the missing files! Since I bought my version off of STEAM I'm not exactly sure how the DVD version works, I'm assuming it tried to access the internet while installing?

eh **** i didnt know it wasnt the complete game. I tried to install the game on my home computer, not the uni computer. But it failed due to the 1334 error.

Bought the dvd version from virgin megastores, think il take it back and try to find the cd version from somewhere, im guessing the cd version is the full one right?

man I'm on the exact same boat as you (I made a similar post but it got deleted)

basically you're screwed right now,, you bascally have to haul your computer to the university and autherize it,, and right now the offline mode doesnt seem to work (I can enter it but I can't play HL2 single player)

what I ended up having to do was permanently move my compuer to my school,, luckily since I'm the leader of my term project, I get better access to the school and can stay overnight,,, but then I have the audio stuttering,,,,, someone up there must hate us students
