if you're underage and looking to buy an M rated game best look somewhere besides gamestop:

In a conference call held late last week, managers were informed of the new, stricter M-rated software sales policy. Selling a game to a minor and getting caught will result in immediate termination. But it gets better -- if an hourly employee sells an M-rated game to a minor, not only will he or she lose their job, but the salaried store manager will be terminated as well, even if they were not present in the store at the time of the sale.

expect other big box retailers to follow suit ...not necessarily a bad thing imho as it may keep the soccor moms from screaming "WONT SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!" the next time an M rated game is sold to a minor

Yey, one more thing parents cant bitch about when their children go on killing/carjacking rampages.
XD

Yay, though should have been this way since the beginning, tbh.

Hah, glad I got all the sh17 I could've wanted when I was a minor.

So the store manager has more reason to lie about who bought what game, if they catch an hourly selling 'em to minors.

Now you're back to square 1.

When I bought Company of Heroes at Target the guy scanned my drivers license to make sure I was 17. They really have been cracking down lately

Not that it affects UK, but it's not long before it will. But at such a time I'll be able to buy anything anyway. Nearly 18. :E

I can see this policy as a socket for short-time employees to settle grudges against store managers.

Oh well. The kids will always find someone to buy it for them.

Good thing I'm 18 now or I might actually care about this

but they'd also get themselves fired
Well you're going to leave the job some day, I'm sure there's no better way to say "thanks for being a shitty boss" as you leave the place than to get him fired while you're fired right into your new job.

I'm pretty sure EB prevents the sale of M-rated games to minors too, but not to this ridiculous, cannibalistic extent.

I was only carded once for buying a video game, and it was a few years ago for a Resident Evil game... I had to stop and think of what he was asking when he said "Can I see your ID?"

I made my mom buy it two mins later cause I wanted Resident Evil badly :P

That's a harsh penalty though... I'm glad I don't work at GameStop!

It's already the law in the UK. Selling games marked 18 to anyone younger than that will land you and the store with a fine and the cashier may even face jail time.

Nah, I go in there and I buy M games with no questions asked.

Oh. Wow.

I may have put people in jail. :cheese:

Now were gonna have underage people paying bums off the street to get their video games.

In fact... I could make a decent profit off of this. Just stand outside of EB/GameStop, charge kids $5 to buy their games for em.

XD

Been like this forever in the UK. Why doesn't the rest of the world do this? I mean, if a game is rated 18+ why on earth would you sell it to a 10 year old. :|

Uh... Gamestop and EB are the same company. EB was bought out by Gamestop about a year ago... so yeah...

Meh, I don't keep up with those kinds of things. All I know is that EB doesn't ask me for ID when I buy M games.

It's been like this for a little while now. I'm 19 and I get carded anywhere when I buy an M+ rated game, like Wallmart, Best Buy, Game Stop... etc.
