No NFL games except madden for 5 years.

I started my protest against EA a few weeks ago...

I actually condone piracy against them, too. I'll be pirating every EA I give the remotest care about from now on.

Screw you, EA.

That's rediculus...there must've been millions shelled out for that deal. I like the ESPN games better myself... bah.

wow. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% you EA. Just because Take Two made a better game than you at a lower price....

EA Games is sucking the creativity out of the industry and pretty much standardizing everything.

Heard from an inside source that working there SUCKS.

Yes this is BS that EA is doing this but unless anyone has got an idea top stop EA from standardizing everything then I guess we are stuck with it.

I wonder if it was such a great idea after all for the industry to self regulate. No one is going to step in and do anything and EA will get away with this bullshit.

Personally I myslef loved NFL fever and was saddened to see it go only so the EA would agree to allow madden to be an online title for xbox live.

But seroiusly what can you do. I am open to suggestion as are many other gamers.

While we are bashing EA why dont we bash the ESRB because I hate the ESRB just as much as I hate EA. I hope they both burn in hell.

**** EA **** THEM UP THIER STUPID ASSES.

ESPN 2k5 was so much better than madden 05

Bwuahaha while you all bitch about EA, my stock rises in them! :)

This is really bad news, first step towards EA monopolizing. Pretty obvious when the ESPN games were released for $19.99, What do you do to a company making games as good as yours and selling for much less money? Stop them from making the games.

No longer buying EA related games.

Is there any way from stoppinng this kind of stuff from happening again?

this deal kicks ass, im glad EA gots it now. EA Sports games have always been and always will be far surperior to all the other companies that try.

ya but then the people that dont like madden and would rather play espn or something else are going to suffer because EA is the only company with the rights to develop NFL games.

Im sure in five years if say ubisoft or microsoft bought the rights to NFL then you wouldnt be so happy because it would mean no Madden for you.

wow this is getting a lot of signatures really fast. Its just under 1000 right now. Sadlly I dont think this will help at all.

What if EA starts doing the same for hockey and basketball. Hell they might even License certain make of snowboards, skateboards, cars or whatever else you might find in a sports game and say that no one else can use it.

There are one to stop this.

1) Don't buy Madden games anymore. If EA can't make money on buy the entire NFL license, they won't do it anymore. Mind you, they probably had to pay the NFL the amount for two or three licenses to get the monopoly. If Madden doesn't sell well, it hurts EA big.

This doesn't qualify as a monopolistic activity because NFL video games only represent a small portion of video games sold. If EA bought the rights to only produce FPS, then you would have a monopoly case.

This can be challenged by other video game companies if they can prove that EA did this on purpose. Chances are they won't be able to prove such a thing.

whoa, not to hijack this thread, but what's wrong with the ESRB? They're one of the saving graces of the industry... they're why there isn't gov't censorship of games. [yet].

If you don't like them because you're under 17 and can't buy "M" games, quite bitching. You can't buy "R" movies either. And buy them online anyway.

I really can't believe this. It seems like it would be illegal or something but... it's not.
But how can I boycot EA? They make The Sims! They make Lord of the Rings! Self... control...

I do have a problem with the fact that I cant buy m rated games but that is not the reason I hate the ESRB.

I think ESRB needs to rework their image and their rating system. I also think they should broaden what they do also. I would like the ESRB to be more invloved in the industry and help keep gaming alive. I am well aware of the fact that they are the saving grace of the industry. I dont like the fact that I cant buy m rated games but hey I cant drink beer either. So I am not going to complain about that. I do think I am mature enough to play M rated games concidering my dad was the one who introduced me to goldeneye on the n64 and played multiplayer all the time. I think I was only aroung 10 but even then I was mature enough. Sadly I coulnt say something like "It should be up to the gamer whether or not he is old enoug to buy M rated games" because then you would just come back at me and say "well then would a 16 year old be able to decide if he is mature enough to drink beer?" I realize there is nothing I can do to fix this but I still think the ESRB should get mroe invloved in things like game piracy. I realize that that is not the reason they were formed but I see no reason holding them back from doing things like that. Maybee they could also set rules preventing companies from dominating a genre to keep competition alive. But my main thing I hate about the ESRB is their rating system and their image. Both just need to be reworked. Those comercials with the baseball players just dont really catch my attention. Im not here to offer suggestion I am just stating my point. But maybee they could have specific ratings for different genres.

Oh and buy the way I am allowed to rent and buy R rated movies. Not porn though. ;(

I would just like to point out that this NFL EA agreement is coming a year or so right befor the next generation of consoles when EA is probably going to sell the most footbal games ever, as consumers get sucked into the the graphics and just want a launch title to play with their brand new xbox 2

Anyway Im interested in what theinquirer will say about this, if anything at all.

Re: Above

Well, in the USA 'M' and 'R' games and movies are 17 years and older.
The rating system they have is nearly identical to the Movie rating system, which has kept that industry afloat.

But Re: Piracy and Policy, there is an organization to deal with that; the ESA (Formely IDSA). They are the lobby group for games... if you want to take something up with them, e-mail them!

oh wow i have never heard of ESA.

I guess I no longer hold a grudge against ESRB

That's just evil. I don't play sports games, but it's pretty obvious this sort of trend, if left unchecked, will just kill the entire industry.

yeah, they used to be called the IDSA... good people, if only marginilly effective :(

wow this really makes me hate both the NFL and EA (more then I typically do)
