PENSACOLA, Fla. - A man who tried to shoot seven puppies was shot himself when one of the dogs put its paw on the revolver's trigger.

Jerry Allen Bradford, 37, was charged with felony animal cruelty, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday. He was being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to his wrist.

Bradford said he decided to shoot the 3-month-old shepherd-mix dogs in the head because he couldn't find them a home, according to the sheriff's office.

On Monday, Bradford was holding two puppies — one in his arms and another in his left hand — when the dog in his hand wiggled and put its paw on the trigger of the .38-caliber revolver. The gun then discharged, the sheriff's report said.

Deputies found three of the puppies in a shallow grave outside Bradford's home, said sheriff's Sgt. Ted Roy.

The other four appeared to be in good health and were taken by Escambia County Animal Control, which planned to make them available for adoption.

Pistol packin poodle?

poor animals :(;(;(

Shame he wasn't injured properly, not killed, thats an easy way out. Maybe paralysed or something would have been better.

Can't stand animal cruelty.

Sorry to say that... but... many people have to kill the babies their pets got for some reasons. But usually they're poisoned or drowned...

...mostly happens when noone wants to take one.

nobody ever HAS to kill an animal. There's always other ways to do things

If they couldn't handle their pets having babies, they should have taken them to the vets to make sure it couldn't happen. There's really no excuse for killing an animal like that.

maybe if they took responsibility for their pets they wouldnt have to destroy their unwanted offspring. They could have spayed or neuteured their pets if they didnt want them to have offspring.

Hey, I didn't say I'd do it :D

Just wanted to point out that it happens a lot.

but it shouldnt

half the people who own pets shouldnt own pets

Amen to that. My only current pets are two tarantulas- I can just about cope with lumbering hairy things that only need feeding every few weeks.
But enough about my Dad ...

Seriously, I think animal cruelty needs to be punished far more severely. I mean, honestly, other than ignorance or sadism, what sort of defence can you possibly make?

See now... I knew we'd find something to agree on. People need to be responsible for their own actions.

I think there's a bit of conservatism in you Skipper. :naughty:

my broadband is better than your dial up!! ;)

What an odd fellow. Suitably ironic that he gets shot by a dog, though - I approve.

We certainly are a nation of animal lovers. But too much - the RSPCA gets more donations than the NSPCC. I'm not saying it doesn't deserve money, but y'know...

you don't consider that animal cruelty? :x
declawing cats is pretty cruel too, I think, though it *is* a little funny to watch them try to claw or scratch in vain. schadenfreude, eh icarus?

You consider spaying or neutering a form of animal cruelty? Why? If it wasn't for those options there would be thousands and thousands of stray pets with no homes. Every pet should be spayed unless the the owner is specifically allowing it to have offspring.

But I do agree about declawing a cat. I personally think it's disgusting. It's not hard to train a cat to not claw the furniture and I don't think there is any excuse to declaw a cat besides just laziness.

declawing is not the same as neutering ...declawing is about inconvience: people will declaw an animal because they dont want their furniture destroyed: it's irrisponsible. It's the worst form of cruelty because it's so common ...along with clipping ears, tails etc ...augmentation for the avarice of the owner: most people shouldnt own pets

neutering is unforetunately necessary as the unwanted pet population is way too high, millions of unwanted pets are put down every year.

EDIT: neutrino beat me to it :)

What's 'gangsta' about that? 'Gangsta' is only shirt-off and gold-chains :(
