Well, that's one bug I've discovered after just a few minutes play already.

I finally downloaded this earlier, but as soon as I started playing, I thought the frame rate was sluggish and slow, but that was because it was at 1024x768!!

Now what MORON puts game resolutions that high as default? 640x480 is the classic and best PC games resolution and should be mandatory!

Now why do I say this? Because I went to 640x480, then thought I'd check out my "achievements" after killing a Pyro as a Scout. And what happened?

The damn screen only showed a corner of the achievements screen, and I got stuck. No way to click OK or anything, cos I couldn't see it or reach it. And I had to reset manually.

Any game that has a stupid bug like that needs fixing pronto.

640x480 was acceptable....10 years ago. Either your monitor is extremely small or you have a PC that shouldn't really be playing TF2. I enjoy playing at 1280x1024 and I know most people use this.

you have a 15 inch tv-monitor I presume? Get a bigger one, tf2 is a perfect game don't insult it..

1024x768 is a perfectly fine default resolution. To be honest 640x480 is ancient.

You could submit a bug report (main menu option) it is still in Beta after all. While the resolution is very low by today's standards since you are allowed to use it everything should be displayed correctly.

I'm really oldschool, too.

But seriously, I don't want the hud to take up about half the screen!

800x600 is the minimum playable state imo.

Oops, I must've started this thread in a pique of annoyance. But yes, IronCube, you're right. I've settled on 800x600 at medium settings as a compromise, and it's OK. And it was player stats, not achievements.

FYI, everyone, my desktop is 1280x1024, and I couldn't bear to go lower than that, so don't think I'm a total prude! :stare:

What the hell, dude? I'm astonished that TF2 even has support for 640x480. 640x480 was old when Half-Life came out.

Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but... it's the 21st century! Join it! At least go for 800x600 for crying out loud!

If you think 1024x768 is high-res, I should probably warn you; they've stopped using Shader Model 1.1 a few years back. Just so you know. :P

And yez, zubmit ze bug reportz. It iz in ze beta, zat iz what iz for.

I'm fairly zure you're ze firzt one to actually uze 640x480, zo Valve will be happy to hear what you have to zay.

EDIT: I got instaposted. That'll learn me for trying to be clever.

Good thing you came to your senses...640x480 = 5 years ago resolution. :(

The only game I've ever played at 640x480 was Final Fantasy 7... and that was the high resolution.

lol at 640x480
Comedy material right there.
Oh, you silly boy.

If you can't run tf2 higher than 640x480, don't play it at all, upgrade.

*head turns slowly sideways*

I had to run bioshock at that resolution, my system just seemed to hate the bloody thing, ironic thing is i can run any source game so far at full settings at 1400x900 16:10 with no issues at all.

Hey, Tomb Raider 1 looked awesome on 640x480!

If your graphics card needs 640x480 to run smoothly, then I'm surprised that it even supports DX8(since Valve has dropped DX7 support for the OB and all future titles).

I thought I smelled a bit of sarcasm coming from this thread... perhaps I'm wrong.

640 x 480? Old school. :O

Haha, you tits.

I have to run it at that resolution to play it.

That's a Source engine bug, not a game bug. Just restart your game after changing your graphical settings.

What monitor/system do you have? I'm curious why you need to run it that low.

My monitor supports up to 1280x1024, and I run my XP desktop at that res for the bestest, crispest display - as you do.

But games are different. My 3D card is not exactly top-of-the-range, but I don't think it's awful either, and I also generally prefer low res because then it's faster and smoother, albeit chunky.

I did that, Beerdude - thanks. I can now run at my favourite resolution with no probs. :naughty:
