Nokia 3310 model! XSI

Here it is, my first model:

I have no idea how to make the render-window larger, but I think you can see the model from that preview-window.. The model texture is from my own 3310 and it was textured using the try-error-try-error-method, I still have no idea how I managed to texture it. :p I'm trying to export it to hl2 to make a prop_physics.

I'll explain my texturing method to see if it is horribly wrong:
1. I drag the pic in .tga to the XSI
2. I select the polygons I want to texture with ie. the picture of the front of my phone
3. select render -> get-texture
4. If it complains about cluster overlapping I press cancel, otherwise it won't work
5. in the appearing window (Material XX:Image) i press "new" from the "Texture Projection" menu and choose one of the planar-things
6. I close the window and scale and move the texture to its place

Good beginners texturing tutorials seem to be extremely rare, all the tutorials seem to begin from the pro-level. :mad:

what i do is make a blank texture then load it into xsi and apply it to the object then choose a texture projection then go to application>views>texture editor then stamp uv mesh

to be honest i think xsi is rubbish for texturing but im a noob at texturing anyway so yeah but hey i have posted how to do this like a hundred times u guys should try the search tool because i spent days trying to find out how so everytime i see someone stuck with that i think back to my fustration.
ps sorry about the grammer of my posts i am lazy.

Nobody actually asked a question, so why would we need to use the search feature?

That's exactly what they tell in every texturing tutorial I've seen: "Press alt-7 and your model appears into the texturing editor ready to be textured!1" I don't know if I do something wrong, but the texturing editor is just a messy front view of my model and I can't do anything in it.

The thing I'm trying to ask is: Can I texture the model just by choosing polygons and clicking render->get-texture as I did with the 3310 model?

Another question I haven't found an answer to is converting .exp-files into .smd form. How is it done? I've tried using the ValveSource->Export SMD...-tool, but it causes the XSI to crash. :(
