Hey all, I am new here so...here goes.

I bought HL1 a while back and beat it. Now that HL2 has been out and I've played that I thought I'd play HL1 over again.

My problem is I have to play it on a computer with no internet, there's no other way. I have it installed a computer with the internet (it's running through steam), and I'll be able to transfer any size file from that computer to my non-internet computer.

Is there any "crack" so to speak, to get Steam off of my game, (then I will move it to my non-internet computer). So basically, is there any way I can remove Steam from my currrently installed (legally bought) HL1, so it runs independently of Steam with no need for an internet connection?

Links to "Cracks" or w/e you guys come up with would be helpful. :)

No one will be providing cracks. Valve can ban your Steam account, and thus rendering any games you've bought useless if you ever use cracks to remove Steam.

However, if you have the original Half-Life CD (no reason why you shouldn't) then just install that on your other computer. This will still install the retail version of Half-Life, without Steam. That will work fine.

Oh, and you'll be banned from these forums if you provide cracks. (So I heard)

EDIT : I think I might have a solution. Steam allows backups to be made of your games. They can be broken up in files sizes of 4.5 GB (DVD backup) or 700 MB (CD backup) . Just backup Half-Life (Can be done by going to 'Play Games" tab, Right-Clicking on Half-Life and selecting 'Backup Game Files'. Then select what games you want backed up. Burn it and then run the backup back at your comp without internet which I believe you have Steam on. Normally decryption of the game files won't be necessary. If it is, well, you'll just have to use 56 K modem :( to decrypt. After that, you can select 'offline mode' every time you start Steam with no internet.

Use the package you bought and install it from the CD? Seems quite obvious to me tbh :)

No, I don't have the CD anymore. It got scratched up... :(

I hooked my comp up to the internet briefly, installed steam logged in with my Steam account and installed them from there. Then unhooked, and voila.

Actually now I seem to have run into a bit of a problem...

I disconnected my comp from the internet (after installing hl1 and playing for 2 min.).
Then I started steam up, in offline mode, and it said Half Life was not ready to play offline. Is there anyway to fix this?

Alright, sorry for all the trouble, it finally works now. In order to let it function in offline mode, you have to let steam stay on for quite a while, so it can "update" the game. It doesn't tell you it's updating, but you can check the percent updated in the properties window. At 99 percent (or 100) it says "ready" for offline.

Just go and buy hl1 on CD. It's like 4 bucks.
