I need to patch Fallout 3 up to v.1.6, but I don't have Xbox live service. Is it possible I could do it the old fashioned way and download the patch to a PC flash drive then plug it into the 360's USB port so I could then install the patch? Also, assuming if it's even possible, do I need the 360 HDD?

Unless you're on dial up, you can use a free silver account to download patches.

Yup. :P

I can't get broadband in my area even if I could afford it, which is why I'm hoping for an immediate work-around. I'd be willing to wait for the download on PC where I could then transfer via flashdrive, but I take it it's impossible to connect the 360 to dial-up. <checks> yup, no jacks. :p

The local Wal-mart's electronic dept. has an Xbox Live kiosk where I could download it, but the 360 on display, and also the same machine that runs the kiosk had RRoD last time I checked.

I used to have dial up too (same problem as you, livin in the country, but then they finally brought it out here), there is no way, sorry brah.

Oh well, I guess my only option is to either move to a metro area and get DSL, or go to another super-chain like BestBuy or Target and hope they have kiosks that don't have RRoD.

Until then, I'll be playing Fallout 3 with missing NPCs and other buggy shit. (my Walter in Megaton disappeared) I'd have no negative vibes about the game if not for the damn bugs. I wish devs would stop being lazy and stop "PC-fying" games with poorly QA tested titles.

LOL, now console gamers have a counter argument against PC gamers who say their favorite multi-port "PC title" has been "con-soled".

I can tell you might do a lot to get it working, so I suggest bringing the console to a store and update via their internet connection, maybe the place you bought the game with the receipt in hand.
Also even though the QA department have found a lot of bugs a game might get shipped anyway and then just patch the rest to meet deadline etc.
