Noob console Question

Just wondering how to open the console. I've gone to controls, advanced, enable developer console but when I press ~ nothing happens, any ideas?

Any help appreciated.

hmmm it should work.....are you sure you clicked apply after you enabled it?

maybe the console button was changed in the keyboard settings?

I definatly clicked apply and I use pretty much the default settings for controls. I've tried pressing the '~' button with caps lock on as well and still nothing happens.
