Noob question, typing/talking when playing Deathermatch

Hi, how do you type messages when playing, I used to play Half Life online a while ago and on the old one you just brought down the console and typed, but this dose not seem to work for me on Half Life two, an I doing something wrong???

Any help will be much appreciated :thumbs:

1) to get console to come down you have to go to Options>Keyboard>Advanced Options then check Developer Console

2) you COULD just hit T or Y but maybe you binded something to those by mistake....
