I have a 9550 (SE I think) and i want to upgrade. It is running on an APG slot and the data transfer rate is x4.

My question is would a GFX card with a data transfer rate of 8 be supported by any APG slot?

Sorry if I dont make any sense -.-

Why? Does that mean my motherboard only supports up to 4x speed? Because thats the rate of my card

arghh, im confused :bonce:

Chances are it supports 8x. You might wanna check in BIOS. Look for AGP aperature speed or something along those lines, see if it can go up higher.

You could also look the mobo up online or call in.

How can I get into BIOS? Im scared of fudging everthing up :p

Also, suppose its Max was 4x. If I buy (say) a 9800 Pro, would it run faster than my current card even though it is bottlenecked?

It might run a bit faster but it would still suck.

To get into bios simple restart your comp and keep hitting the del keep. Or whatever key it says to enter BIOS. Then go into integrated peripherals or some other menu and just look around. When your done just exit without saving.

hmmm, im basically on a ridiculously tight budget (whatver my dad sees fit next birthday :P) what card would be best? I want to stick with a Radeon if possible.
