How do I tell if my computer can use SATA II HDDs? My current HDD is Serial ATA-150 (which should be SATA I right)? Will my computer be able to use SATA II HDDs? I know very little about HDDs, so sorry if the question seems nooby. My com's a generic Dell Dimension 4700. It uses the Intel 915G Express chipset, if that helps.

Depends on your Motherboard, if it support SATA1 or SATA2

i did a lil search for your MB, and found it doesnt support SATA2, its got 4 SATA1 Ports only

But Sata2 drives will work with Sata1 motherboards, it'll just default back to Sata1 if I remember correctly.

Correct

Isn't there no such thing as SATA 2? The official website said it was some advertising mistake.

Oh ok good, as long as it's backwards compatible I don't mind. I've been trying to sell of my iPod mini for some time, since I'm going to get a video, but it seems no one wants a mini anymore. Someone offered to trade his 300GB SATA II for my ipod, so I said yes.

Yeah there is no SATA2 really. There are a bunch of new features such as 300mbps and NCQ though. If you get a fancy drive with 300mbps and you use it on your older SATA port it will work just fine (at 150mbps).

What if i used this fancy drive on a SATA2 Motherboard ?
Will it have this fancy features ?
