noob steam question

Forgive me if this has been asked and answered before, did a quick search and could not find an answer.

I read that our original half life CD keys will be required to continue to play HL once the new steam system comes into effect. Now, I dont know about all of you, but I bought this game about 2 months after it came out and have not been able to locate my cd case for some time now.

Does Valve offer the ability to buy another CD key directly from them? Or am I stuck having to buy another copy of Halflife?

Thanks

Steam is intrusive malware, has memory leaks, spies on you, slows down load times. get rid of it.

you can still use steam.. just cant play hl I and its mods/exp packs

and yes I think you will be able to buy hl over again via steam

2 things, 1 this belongs in the steam users forum ;) (not flaming you), 2 i dont really see what the problem would be in buying a new copy of HL cos you can pick it up for about a tenner, and either throw the cd away, use it as a coaster or just keep it!

steam is neccessary. repleaces sierra utilities, updates you instantly, a way to keep in intant messaging service just for half-life, a way to purchase hl2 it is not intrusive, it will not take up more bandwith becuase most of the streaming options can be turned off. steam is great.

Very simple: use a CD key changer or search for it manually in your registry. If all else fails email me I have a dozen cd keys which aren't used.

Edit: And alb you are the biggest retard I've ever seen, it seems you always double post on purpose.

If you play the normal version of Half-Life you don't need steam to play so you can just delete steam when it asks for key. If you play the steam version of Half-Life you need a key (obviously) but there's almost nobody playing the steam version. (was about 200 servers totaly last time i checked (for all mods))

Actually Dalys, Steam is completely taking over the workings of all Valve products within the next 4 weeks. By the time we have HL2, Steam will be the back end for every single HL1 mod, HL1 game (including DOD, TFC and CS). There will be no way to play HL1 related software without using Steam.

For real Alb cut it out.

Ok:

Run
Regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Valve
Half-Life
Settings
Key

That is your CD-Key

Thats £10 saved :D

Thank you all for the quick replies. Looks like I will be able to remedy the situation without having to buy another copy of Halflife.

Thanks again..

Oh, didn't know that. That sucks. I hope steam will change TOTALY when it comes out tomorrow.
