So I just started playing Shining Force 2 again on an emulator (don't worry I own the game, but my sega genesis is broken), and holy shit this is bringing back memories. Seriously, there are few games that have made as much of a mark on me, simply because this was one of the first truly great games I had ever played. So I ask you, what games do you associate with the birth of you as a gamer?

Quake 1 and Lunar Eternal Blue(followed later by Silver Star Story Complete)

Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Super Mario World is what got me started. I can play through those two games again at any point in time and love it like it was my first time all over again.

Well, for me it was a flight combat sim for my C64. I tried to google it, but as I don't remember the name & the games I saw listed did not jog my memory, i'm stuck. I also have fond memories of playing the wire frame "Battle Tank" game that came out in the very early 80's, on the old PC's in the library back in grade school. The two best console games I ever played were the original "Final Fantasy" for the NES & "Dragon Warrior" for the NES as well. I have very fond memories of playing both of those games.

Wing Commander 1 & 2, Wolfenstein 3D, and Pitfall.

Ahhh yes. Wing Commander. A wonderful game. So many years ago now, a friend of mine while in High School, had me come over to his place so that he could show me his new PC. A then top of the line 386. On it, he showed me the original Wing Commander.

Sigh...

Wonderboy in the arcade was the first to get me hooked, but SF2 sealed the deal.

Super Mario All Stars+ world. Then Mario 64 and Zelda Oot

Wolfenstein 3D: Spear of Destiny, Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Bros., Paperboy ( NES ), and Double Dragon (NES).
Played them all religiously as a kid.

half life 2.
still brings back memories whenever i get it out of the closet. But the graphics are way old now, so I can't really enjoy anymore.. :(

I'd hate to bring up EverQuest in another thread, but I will. EQ was the first game I ever bothered dedicating time to and lead to my many years of addictive PC gaming after that.

Vectorman and Dynamite Heady for SEGA were the foundation of my childhood.

Also Sonic 1 and Sonic and Knuckles.

There are the games that I consider to have made me a gamer:
Sonic 2
Soleil
Link's Awakening
Super Mario Land 2

Two are platformers and two are RPGs, two genres which I almost never play any more :P

Wolfenstein 3d, Dark Forces, and later Age of Empires and Starcraft

Wolfenstein 3D, Doom (II, Plutonia, TNT), Age of Empires II and Starcraft

Pokemon, Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Monster Rancher 2

oooh Starcraft and Warcraft 2

I want my life back that I spent playing many shitty games. There were some that were worth my time, but I'm not going to make a huge list.

Dungeon Master and Archon were a couple of my favorites. Too many times I've said this, to the point where some of you might know that I would list those.

Plenty of games have a nostalgia factor from when I was a kid, but the ones I took my first gamer steps in were Super Mario World and A Link to the Past. Both of which remain awesome to this day. :P

I respectfully disagree: in my opinion HL2 has still awesome graphics.

Pc: Halflife, CS, Dungeon Keeper, Red Alert, Quake 2
Sega: Truxton, Micky Mouse, Sonic The Hedgehog
Playstation: Crashbandicoot (spell?)
Nintendo 8bit: Supermario

:bounce:
