Not able to post custom maps..

wait i dont get. we are not able to post custom maps? but we are able to post custom sprays? The tools for making a spray are from the leak. I dont think we should post sprays then if we cant post maps.

There is nothing more then a program like PhotoShop to make sprays, nothing is related to the Leaked Build

This forum is very fickle. I know of posts being closed right away and then somebody posts the same post and it gets a 100 replies and nobody closes it.

thats because they have links to download the vtex.rar file which has the leaked files to convert a spray. Look at a tutorial and you would see the link towards the bottom.

Look at it this way, the sprays are very basic image conversions, the maps are large untested badly lit buggy creations, now consider all the idiots out there that will go play them and then post valve bug reports like this.

This is a beta, it is not here to build a community or even to get people buying the full version, it is simply here to test the source engine with steam on a large ammount of people, so that they are a little wiser of issues when pushing out the engine for real.

yeah custom maps are no more illegal than the custom sprays (which use stolen build tools) so I for one vote hl2.net to lighten up, playing or posting these maps is doing no harm, infact its hightening playability of this very mundane condition zero marketing ploy...erm I mean 'beta'

This is why: Valve doesn't care. In fact, they put out an update limiting the size of sprays, not removing custom sprays mind you. So if valve doesn't care, hl2.net doesn't.

For once it'd be nice if you guys didn't persecute us for our actions. We have been asked by Valve to make sure there are no links or support for custom maps being distributed here. They haven't said anything to anyone about custom sprays. We're not being fickle, we're doing what we need to.

Cheta, is the rest of the stolen build stuff being taken down from HL2W or just the custom maps?

I agree , however this could likely be solved by Valve having the report send back the map currently being played and/or last played to determine if the user is using custom maps. Or it could just send back the players map list.

Techincally we dont host anything (we did recently for a brief period). Feed only ever had the image gallery but that was asked to be taken down so we did. We're also very strict about no direct links to files and enforce this rule every day.

All beta content you see on the forum is user made and user hosted.

I'd just like to add that we have always abided by Valve's wishes. Everytime they told us to take something down we did so permentantly.

And, like cheta( ) said, there is no leak content hosted anywhere on the site. The only thing allowed is free discussion.

The forum allows postings of sprays, but not maps. Both tools used to create them came from the hl2 leak. Both would be illegal because they were created by a tool that wasn't meant to be released. That's what I'm trying to say.
