I already bought all the stuff in my sig. and im putting it together but i had a few questions that i was sort of wondering about anyways. First off my old computer specs were: p4 2.5ghz, radeon 9700, 1 fan, and a 250w power supply that came with my dell. i was wondering if my graphics card was being limited by my cpu and power along with air flow (only intake no exhaust), also my agp slot on my old mobo only had agp x4 and my new mobo has agp x8, does that make much of a difference? Also i know i asked about my sound card in a previous post but i thought i might as well see if anyone else has any opinions, should i use my onboard sound on my msi neo2 platinum or my cheap sb live card that came with my dell (i have 2 speakers and a sub)?

First, better cooling will not help performance, just stability. Obviously if your PC becomes unstable because of heat or lack of power, that's going to affect performance (i.e. crash) but besides, that, no. 8x vs. 4x AGP really doesn't make a whole lot of difference.
I'd say your old system was matched up fairly well.

do u think that my new one in my sig will be much faster than my old system, also do you think that my new system will bottleneck any of the newer graphics cards?

Foxhound, can you flash those Radeon9700's to 9700pro?

If so, then you'd probably be fine: my Athlon (non-64) is def the bottleneck, even at 3000+ speeds.

Recommended "good, but just about affordable" spec for HL2 seems to be Radeon 9800pro, Socket939 Winchester 3000+ and 2 x 256Mb or 512Mb DIMMS - the Radeon9700pro is only a tiny fraction slower than the 9800pro, so you should be fine if you can flash your grpahics card up.

WRT to the power - I'd reckon that would be very much on the lean side.

Cooling all depends on case designa nd how full it is. Exhaust fans help, but if it's not getting hot then you're fine. Check motherbaord temp in BIOS.

I have no idea what that means or how i would go about doing that, could you please explian, it sounds interesting...
I also have question about my ram (look in sig.) would i put one chip in to channel 1 and one into channel 2 or both in the same channel to run my ram in dual channel mode (dual channel is faster than non-dual channel isn't it?).

It means to flash the bios from a 9700 vanilla, to a 9700 pro. People do it all the time with thier 256mb 9800pro's. They make em xt. I'm pretty sure you can flash a 9700 to a 9800pro. If you've got the experience and don't care about the warranty, i'd say give it a go. If something goes wrong, you could alwayse flash it back.

And penguine, PLEASE! Stop spamming! You do realize that all those post's you made could have easily been combined into one big post! I know i'm no moderator but it's pretty obviouse that your spamming!

and intake fans wont help much

For one thing, that and you put at the begining of that makes it plain to see that you meant to integrate that into your first post which means... SPAM! Just make one post!

And you don't have a fecking idea of what your talking about! "intake fans wont help" WHAT THE HELl! Intake fans will help a bundle! So you've got exhaust fans blowing air out, WHERE'S ALL THE COOL AIR FOR THEM TO BLOW OUT GOING TO COME FROM?! ELVES?! Fox, that cool air coming from the front of the comp will help shitloads to keep your cool airflow going smooth and to stop hotspots. Keep in going it.

alright thanks sinkoman, where would i learn how to flash my card, ive never done it before and i don't know what to do, a tutorial is basically what im looking for.
Also does anyone know anything about my ram question?
Thanks.

Plus i really dont care about how many posts I get. If power was a problem then your computer would shut off, your slow cpu might be the problem.

huh? what are you talking about man, my cpu is not too slow and your saying stuff completely off topic, i just want some help not spamming. Does anyone know anything about my ram question or know of a tutorial about how to flash your graphics card?

Thanks for all the help i've gotten so far by the way.

*bump* i really would appriciate it if anyone could share with me any information they know about my ram question a few post back or especially a tutorial on how to flash my graphics card, it's pretty important that i get this information if anyone has it, thanks.
