After the first 2 weeks of the store having opened the polycount contest winners received royalties ranging from $39,000 to $47,000 per person. It may seem absurd to some people, whereas others may love the ability to get their hands on prestigious items (hats!). So have you bought anything? Do you intend to? And if you have, how much have you spent?[br]Vote in our poll on the side bar on the Halflife2.net home page and leave your comments.

I've spent my share of $10 on keys. Got a couple trinkets but all in all I figure it's worthwhile enough for having played a great game at a discounted pre-order price from 3 years ago.

No, and I never will. I play TF2 maybe once in a month to have some fun with friends so putting more money into it would be a waste for me.

I feel that TF2 ran its course for me. I never really found it that entertaining. I can play maybe an hour and a half of it a week, tops, otherwise I get frustrated. I might check this out, but I doubt I'll spend any money on anything.

I kind of expected those results, but Wow. I barley buy more than two of anything for myself in a year (excluding food and light bulbs and such) so "No, and Never Will" is about a normal thing for me. I'd rather get them from playing the game, personally.

Two keys. The number of votes is exactly 100 right now. Thought that was kind of cute. Does HL2.net have any statistics about how often people look at the front page compared to the forums? I'd be very interested.

No. I'll never endorse micro-transactions in videogames.

Bought a few keys. I've played the game a lot, and still do, so I don't mind.

Yep.

Bought two poly pack weapons when it came out, because I didn't have the patience to wait. A single key as well.

And I bought a Halloween hat.

But I got the money for it, so it's no problem.

It's sort of strange, because I dislike micro transactions for MMO RPG's. But that's because I do not like the idea that people can have an advantage from purchasing items, rather than playing. However, in those games you must beat encounters to achieve items, whereas in TF2 it's simply a matter of playing enough time. I have been in no advantage from my purchases. But I've had more fun on a personal level. Thus I think it works out fine.

I would rather put a campfire out with my face.

:S

No and i never will. I loved the original version of the game. It was breath of fresh air and just down right fun to play. Even if i even initially sucked at it, it never frustrated me one bit like some games can do. Getting blow up into tiny bits alone always got a laugh out of me. However, Valve felt that the game was broken and decided to put it through numerous gameplay changes to the point that it eventually started losing its appeal to me. Now, it's become nothing but a dick measurement contest and a grind fest. They somehow managed to turn a very fun and casual shooter into a grindy, cookie cutter MMO.

What the hell grinding can you do in TF2 other than achievement farm? To get items all you have to do is be in a server.

Since Valve turned the very subtle and thus fun addition of hats into their own cliche/money cow, no.
What happened to the time where you had to play hundreds of hours to get a single hat? These days it's most personal not to wear a hat, since pretty much everyone with more than 100 hours of playtime already dozens of 'em.

No reason to feel guilty against Valve, I regularly buy games on Steam.

Haven't bought anything yet, but I probably will eventually. I just don't see the point of wasting my money on items when I can alternatively find them by playing on a server, as well. I especially dislike the idea of using crates as a promotional tool for players to buy keys. Player A gets a Gunslinger for $2.50, while Player B gets an Old Guadalajara for the same price. Unfair, to say the least.

But that is the risk with the crate, it states on the description what you could get...you enter into that gamble full well knowing that. Those who do well from a crate are fortunate but they took the same gamble as the guy who got the degreaser, how is that unfair?

Also it's quite common on servers to see people putting 9 crates up for scrap or reclaimed metal, those being the people not interested in taking that risk, which is absolutely fine.

I've bought a few things, I've been pretty loose with my wallet lately though, I'm sure I'm going to regret it soon.
