Well, this might have been posted before and sorry if it has. In fact, this isn't really that much of a trick, in fact it's pretty lame. Once again, sorry if it's been said or if it's not worh the trouble, but I think it is because of the friends list capabilities and all that.

Well anyway, I got that DoD on steam thing from JDubbs site, and I thought, as most other people, "Hmmm, if this works, then why wouldn't another mod". So I started to search within the Steam folder for the DoD folder. I found it and saw it was in Steam/SteamCache/Accounname/Half-Life/modname(inthiscase, dod). Sooooo, I guessed as basically anyone else would, "Maybe if I put another mod in here, it'll work too!" Well, I did just that, copying and pasting my mods into Steam, and lo and behold, it worked. So now I'm playin NS and Sven on Steam. Well, I just thought that if anyone didn't know of this and wanted to play a mod on steam with Friends list capabilities and so on, just download Half-Life on Steam using the Games tab, paste the mods you want within your accountname/Half-Life/, and just load them up in the games tab under third party software.

Sorry if this is nothing new and lots of others discovered it, but I thought maybe some on here haven't and wanted to know. And sorry for not checking the search button first. I've said sorry so many times :\, so please don't flame. Thanks...... sorry.

Edit Whoooooops. I guess there already is a post about this on Steampowered forums. Well I guess this can just be seen as a notice to anyone who didn't know, so maybe the mods can gain more popularity.

Edit Alsoooo, the right click in NS is F's up so it's kinda not worth it, unless you know the evolve/radio commands already.

i tried this with sven coop and it said it couldnt find hl.exe or something.
I tried this with point of view and it just started half life but wouldnt let you start a game ;(

Yeah...the only thing good about steam is the friends list

I hope you dont have to use steam to play HL2 online...

no you dont...or well you need to have it installed, but you can use things such as gamespy and others, to looks up servers, but steam is the backend

Ok this is starting to get annoying... All my games are in a totally different folder than what you're saying. I recently bought counter-strike 1 and that came with DoD too... so i dont have half-life.

My DoD is in a separate folder Valve/Steam/SteamApps/Accounname/Day of defeat/dod and not in some sub-folder of half-life or counter-strike

Now... i've looked all over for answers as to how to run NS but i cant find one that works. Everyone says put it in your half-life folder... except i dont have one. Some people say put it in my counter-strike folder... still doesn't work. What am i supposed to do?

NS wont work unless you have half life.

And try not to bring up 3 year old threads when such a question could have been in a new thread.

NS? Natural Selection? That's a HL1 mod, therefore you need HL1 to run it. Oops.

no, not without a lot of mangling. Some mods will run through CS, but not all.

Since steam, I'm pretty sure no HL mods can be frankensteined into CS

A Cs Cd Key gets you HL off of steam....
