When we think of Sci-Fi games, we usually think of space ships, laser beams and silly tin-foil space helmets. The Nuclear Dawn modification doesn’t hold such an optimistic view of the future. More precisely, it predicts that we’ll all be extinguished by a thousand flashes of heat in a pointless but inevitable nuclear war. Any of you who’ve played Fallout will know that such a conflict isn’t easy to recover from… in fact, the world is pretty much reduced to a huge smouldering desert, with skeletons of ancient skyscrapers poking from the limitless sand. [br] [br] As you can imagine, the potential for gameplay here is enormous. The really exciting thing is that the modification is already well underway, and we can expect a media release in the near future! We’ll keep you updated on the Nuclear Dawn modification, so watch this space. Actually, seeing as there isn’t a suitably sized space for you to watch, just gaze upon these fantastic conceptual artworks instead. [br]

It's Fallout on the Source engine.
The infallable proof that God does exist.

I saw that too, but I only realised it was for a mod just now :D

Nice presentation nice concept art nice site (even if only see a little bit of it).

Umm, these concepts are over TWO YEARS OLD. I have two of those concepts on my wallpaper rotation. In addition, there was some controversy surrounding this mod and its artists.

How on Earth did they suddenly make front pages?

These concepts are older than my grandmother.. Had no idea it was this mod (except hull breach) that Ukitakumuki was working on. Good stuff nonetheless :)

Then again, it feels just like natural law that this mod that builds so much hype without any game material to show, is going to crash and burn. But we'll just have to wait and see

Amazing stuff! although those soldier designs remind me of Killzone.
Fantastic concept art and great eye for detail!
*adding to favourites.

That's the DNF law.

Hopefully it won't be right here, because I'd love to play this mod when it's done.

For those of you who are saying this concept art is old: yes, it is, but that just means they've been working on the game for over two years. That means it's probably going to be a very good game- unlike all the mods that post EVERY SNIPPET of information in a huge, hyped up media release... and then just fade away.

As said, old media not warranting a newspost presenting it as if this stuff is all new and the mod just revealed itself or something. If they want publicity they'll release a media release soon enough. But then again, hype-founded news reporting at hl2.net is not exactly a new thing is it? :p

Post-apoc != Fallout

Always thought Fallout was post-apocalyptic.

I am saying a post apoc themed game does not equate to a Fallout game.

edit:
I'm not saying you're not allowed to post old stuff, but you should present it as the reminder that it is. And with less hype. But really, my views of news reporting obviously differ vastly from yours so it's no use discussing this.

Does anyone know if this will be a single-player game? If so, then I'm already hyped for it just by looking at these "two year old" concepts. If they put that much quality into their work, then this is sure to be a great high quality mod.

Journalists / writers are allowed to hype whatever they want... news posting isn't an encyclopaedia, we're not supposed to give a neutral / unbiased view. Similarly, we're not expected to give a balanced argument that explains in great detail why the mod could fail, or how it could be criticised. And other than that, the only other way you can write a news post without injecting a little flavour / hype into the writing is by speaking in clear, monosyllabic sentences that clearly state the content of the media release / update... but that sounds boring.

I've been looking at this mod's stuff for about a year now, I thought they'd died, they were so damn silent. Good to see them getting ready to launch.

Whats that counter for, it is'nt live so its not counting down to anything particular is it ?

EDIT: Or it does work properly, just the seconds that does'nt update after a refresh in FF ;)

Beautiful concept art - I heard some sound design from the mod as well and it's equally stellar.

The problem is not that the news should be neutral. I'd love to see a real opinion in a hl2.net news article. That's not what I see though. It's all hype ("flavour"), and anything vaguely critical is immediately compensated by a paragraph of optimism.

I've already said too much in an unproductive discussion I said I wasn't getting into and I have no desire to continue, so you won't see me reply here after this post.

its not a countdown to anything though it restarts when you refresh

huh. that is strange. well, the site has definitely updated. before it was just a spalsh screen with their logo. Something must be going on.

This is going to be insane. I cant ****ing wait. Is that a count down on the site? If it is OMG ITS CLOSE!

EDIT: Not a countdown but still LEET!

Mod concept art of the calibre is rarely seen. I'm very impressed, and eagar to see what will come next.

How could you possibly guess how good a mod will be from concept art that probably doesn't have much or any representation of gameplay?

Arn't these concept arts like? A year old? I was expecting more from Nuclear Dawn after such a long time :)
Still looks nice though.

*edit*

Ok the teaser site says two weeks, so i'll shut up :)

Hmm, so do they actually have any work done or what? You'd think they'd at least show off a screenshot or something that actually has to do with what's in the mod if this is supposed to be new news.

That is some of the best concept art I have ever seen...

Very nice concept art, reminds me somehow of Guerrilla's concept artists.

Looking forward to see more of this in the future.
