Number of saved games

Unlike HL one, my HL2 is only saving about 6-9 save points in my "load game" tab. A friend said that his would save many more. This is inconvenient because it overwrites old points I want to return to, and if I play too long on one of these old levels it may overwrite my furthest point. Can I tweak how many saves it will show? thanks,

If you quicksave, it will disappere quickly, but if you save the long way(press esc and then save game) it should remain there. Anyway, you can start at which chapter you want by starting a new game. (if you have finished the game)
