but im real desperate!! i bought a fx5600 some months ago thinking about HL2, but now this!!! i dont wanna be a bourden, but please tell if there is hope for me playing this game with 8.1x and a nice frame rate and a nice resolution!!!

My apologies for being such an ass.....

Valve said that you will have to turn it down to dx8 features to get playable framerates. I'd recommend it. I'd rather have good fps than pretty stuff...

nvidia suck with dx 9.. don't know how bad they are with 8.1 or 8.. it is't that much difference from 8.1 to 9..

it just is not smart to buy a card for a game that is not released.

1) you dont know the benchmarks
2) prices will drop
3) cards get faster

just wait people...

yes, i'm not worried about 9x, but im worried with fps!!!! i don't care about all those shiny things (well, actualy i do!!) but i worry in having a nice fluent game....

visual comparisons don't make it look like there is a huge difference. Mainly in lighting and surfaces of objects and water.

it looks fine under 8

there is not much difference between DirectX8.1 and 9, and FX cards do perform well with DX8.1 so you don't have to cry :)

*kills self over a few measly frames per second*

thnks, because when i saw that 9x video today i almost did thinking how dum i was buying a card so desperatly when i didnt even need one!!!

can't wait to try HL2 in 2/3 years from now!! with all those new shiny cards!!!

Then again, if you were going to play Half-Life 2 in DX8 you could of got a GF4 or a Radeon 8500 and played with similar frame rates!

But in all honosty with a GFfx in DX8 you should have a great time with a pretty good FPS!

when i bought that fx the AA subject wasnt even in the net!! how should i know that fx sucked for 9x??

Everyone really expected Nvidia to come out with something incredible and crucify everything on the market (and repeat previous successes). When Nvidia fell flat on their face however with a poor line on DX9 video cards everyone really got on Nvidias back. That is why there is so much nvidia bashing going on.

Really though , it's not your fault you got carried along with the crowd into thinking Nvidia couldn't do any wrong, you've learned your lesson, just be more careful in the future and do some reasearch :) and it's not like the GFfx's are *bad* cards in themselves, they just arn't competing with ATI's latest and greatest.

Hey howd you swap your FX for the 9600? I was thinkign about doing that with my 5900U 256 , I might wait till Doom3 is out though , supposedly Nvidia kicks ass with Doom3 , So I might try to sell it to a Doom3 fan to pay off a 9800 Pro 128

Man my advice, turn it back and get R. if its immpossible then buy one if you have money, if in poor condition then their is only one way play it on what you have or suffer.
