Okay, here's my situation:
For a graphics crad I have a 6800GT OC from BFG, and a 3500+ Athlon for CPU (if it matters)
I had an old version of the drivers for quite a while. It was version 66.93 which worked just fine. The only issue was BF2 shading was screwy (no biggy) but both BF2 and CS: S recommended updating my video drivers.
So! Back with 71.84, I installed the new drivers. Cool! I start playing CS: S, and lo and behold... everything locks up! oh good, only for a few seconds. This lock up happens anywhere from every 15 seconds to 10 minutes after the previous one.
Well i get pissed and roll back my drivers... voila! it works flawlessly, just like before.
I essentially repeat this with every release of the drivers, same results. So now with 78.01, it locks up, as expected, during gameplay. So I just uninstall ALL the Nvidia drivers. I install the new drivers, including the SMbus...
SAME PROBLEM!!! WHAT DOES NVIDIA WANT FROM ME!!!
I'm lost as to what i can do beyond reinstalling everything... and its not the hardware... any ideas?

EDIT: okay, so 78.05 is out, but i doubt that will solve anything...
