I saw this on the inquirer.

For those that aren't following graphics that much the NV40 is the new NVIDIA chip and the R420 is the new ATI chip that will both be released in march

Heh whoopd, diddn't notice the thread in hl2 discussion, Mods delete this if you need to.

PCI Express is the way of the future :D

/me looks sadly at my AGP pride and joy ;(

Ah well, time for a new challenge: A BTX system. Anyone got proper decent information on the new technology standard?

Hmmm how do nvidia know that it will give 7 times the performance increase in HL2? Methinks someone has downloaded something illegal.......

/me e-mails Gaben

:P

Well if 7 times better is the case (and that better be on full gfx), then bring it on! That would be sweet :) :) :)

I had a link on it awhile ago, but I lost it.

Im gonna build a BTX system this autum or next spring. Fully watercooled ofcourse :D

7 times better sounds a bit rediculous ...

unless there referring to there new cards being 7x faster than 10fps....then i would believe it.

yeh i would probably think it was 7x 10fps

p.s crab who is that in ur avater?

Pretty sure nVidia has close tie-ins with VALVe, seeing as how VALVe and nVidia worked together to write thoes speecial shader paths mentioned in the benchmarks awhile back

I'll hold out until I see the benchmarks. Frankly 7 times seems improbable.

How many times have we not heard how many times faster a new card is *supposedly*? :)
Even if the 9500/9700 was a MASSIVE increase its predecessors (still one of the greatest jumps ever since the Geforce), they cant even come close to 4 or 7 times... I find it very hard to beleive that they cant do that. Then again, we all know how Nvidia twists information. It wouldnt surprise me if they took an "average" 5600 on a 2ghz, ran it, then took a 3.5-4ghz with a NV4x PCI express version, and thus claims its 7 times faster than the current cards. 3 of those times is probably the CPU, alot is PCI express, and the rest isnt very much. That's just wildly guessing though, but I still wouldnt be surprised :p
