We knew it was coming, and now it appears that NVIDIA's acquisition of PhysX maker Ageia is about to pay off. NVIDIA has told analysts that that the conversion of Ageia's physics application interface to CUDA is nearly complete?so if you are running GeForce 8000+ you will soon be able to enjoy the benefits of a physics accelerator via a simple software download.

that means if you have a 8000 series Nvidia you'll be able to play PhysX supported games

PhysX technology has yet to take off, but with GPU integration, it is poised to breakout in a serious way. In fact, there are around 140 games that are supported or currently in development that utilize the technology.

Cool, I guess this will work on my 8800GTS. Kind of sucks for all those people that paid $200 for their physics card when it first came out.

I knew nVidia had recently acquired Ageia, but I wasn't expecting full PhysiX support for 8000 series GPU's

Totally unexpected

Yeah, I'm actually glad that I didn't spend that money now

Awesome stuff. Never wanted a physics card anyway. :)

awesome, thanks for the heads up. Hail nvidia

nVidia and Ageia both get what they want, and we get what we want. Everybodies happy

Isnt ATI suppose to go bankrupcy by this point? I mean, they have been behind Nvidia throughout 2000-present and with nvidias constantly upgrading powers (such as this) must make life harder for ATI.

(Talking about ATI and AMD)

Why dont they just drop the entire graphics area and put all their powers towards processors? Intel has the lead while AMD is falling behind. 2 failing companies combined = FAIL. AMD has been great but they havent done anything new and amazing ever since the Athlons. Or am i living under a rock?

amd was better then intel when they released the athlons and intel released the celeron and pentium 4 cpus. other then that intel still reigns.

Nvidia had said they are going to work with other companies in the industry so they can use the tech too. It's just that Nvidia owns it and it will work with previous launched cards soon. Probably will get money from licensing the tech.

AMD gpus have a similar programing language that could run the same physics. The code would have to be converted probably.

Games previously released and using Ageia's PhysX software will be able to use Nvidia GPUs. And a couple of those did gameplay physics. I think it would be possible. Maybe they don't want to focus on that since there are different GPU speeds though.
