NVIDIA SLI 2.0 Technology In March?

We heard faintly about NVIDIA SLI 2.0 technology and it is going to launch during CeBIT in March. Little information is available at this moment but we heard that it will be able to support mixed cards. We are unclear if it is across different series or different models of the same series.. Also there are some rumors out now that GeForce 8x00 series will be able to support multi-GPUs SLI by linking up 4, 6 to 8 cards or more. This multi-GPUs SLI capability could form part of the SLI 2.0 technology we are hearing.

This just in! Every card added means 1/4 of each extra card's actual power will actually be used in comparison to the last one, so 2nd card = 1/4, 3rd card = 1/16, etc.

*note, these claims may be false*
 
you'd have to have a huge freakin case as well as some pretty damn good fans to have 8 video cards all running at once (not to mention a backup generator to power them)

Why doesn't nvidia talk to Intel and ask for help on dual-core architecture... I mean that way you can essentially have like double the power on the chip (if you increase the pipes and such as well)

No, it's not dumb. This in particular crazy overkill in today's market, but parallelization is the direction things are headed now that we can't get much smaller.

Developing the technology to get many GPUs to work together: SMART.

Making it publically available so that rich folks can have bragging rights and nVidia is King of the Hill: SMART.

Given that you're doing those, not trying to reduce power levels and put multiple GPUs on one card would be DUMB, but I think they're probably working on it.

Eh, I guess but I would rather have them start investing in better single-GPU cards rather than saying "with 8 of our cards hooked together you get like 8x the performance!!! No waii!"Obviously I'm kidding about the numbers there, I have no idea how much performance boost you get.

I would just rather have them make something that is more viable for actual consumers, because sure it's cool to say "With nvidia you can hook up a bunch of cards to maximize your power", but imagine if they would just completely focus on the one-GPU arena and they could force the same performance as above from one card? That would be bitchin'.

You would need a gigantic power supply, not to mention a super cooled water cooling system. It would be nice...but no.
