I feel like an idiot posting this but I can't seem to c the forest from the trees I guess.

I am not new to the mapping (been mapping since Deep - Doom2 editor) but I am new to Half-Life editing. I c that Hammer is a nice tool .... has a friendly interface, but one thing I can't seem to get.

On my right there is a new objects tab wich is used to choose entity or object that should be built. I am trying to place things like radiators or cabinets or furniture and stuff like that wich r allready in HL2. If I understand correctly I need to press block tool, make a block in one of my windows and just choose objects from the new objects tab. When I drop down the Categories menu I get only prefabs and primitives (none ofcourse don't have the objects I need). I thought I am missing maybe something in Hammer setup (didn't point to a file or something).

I just have a feeling that I am gonna feel real stupid after I find out what is the problem.

Things like furniture and radiators are called "Props" in hammer.

To insert one into your map click the Lightbulb button, then click on the floor in your 3D view, this will insert the default entity that was selected (probably a player start).

Select the entity you just made, then press Alt-Enter. There will be a dropdown box in there, choose "prop_static/prop_physics".

The list on the left under the dropdown box should change. There will be an option called "World Model" or something similar. Click this then select "Browse..." on the right.

You can now select from loads of models that are used in HL2. Radiators, lamps, desks and barrels etc etc.

thx .... that worked .... but I have another little problem with objects. If I set props myself, like u described, I can't c them on my compiled map, unlike the objects that I copied from lockdown wich I placed on my map that r working just fine

The props are pretty weird. Sometimes when they are prop_static they won't show, but when they are prop_physics they will.

Strange decision by Valve to make it work this way...
