Obscure driver error in Source games

Every time I load up a level in Gmod or CS Source (I haven't tried any other Source games), the game crashes and I get this error:

I updated my drivers, and then the error went away for about half an hour. I'm trying desperately to start my Gmod comic, so I alt-tab between Source and a notepad file every few minutes, and after about a dozen switches, I get that error again, and now none of my Source games work.

Anyone know what I can do?

[edit] I just booted up Halo, and that works fine, so it's got to be a problem with Source.

Also, my videocard is an ATI Radeon X1900XT 512MB, with the latest driver.

You're using Vista? Give us all of your specs, besides the video card.

Though if you're using vista you're probably boned.

It's not vista, it's a custom XP skin

Had the same problem before (Having new ones at the moment ) and it stopped happening after I installed the new Directx9c.
Dont know if it helps for you or if it even applies but I thought I'd share it just in case
