I have a sony vaio laptop and I'm not entirley sure how this happened, but the entire contents of C:\Documents and Settings\Craig seems to show up in my start bar all the time now, and I'm not really sure how to get rid of it (or how it got there in the first place for that matter).

I've tried moving a few things off there, but when I do they dissapear from the Craig folder too.

Suggestions?

Bollocks, forgot the attachment.

I've never seen that problem before. Try this:

Rright-click on the Start button
Hit Properties
Go to the Start Menu tab
Click on the Customize button
Click on the Advanced tab
Under "Start menu items:", scroll down until you see the My Documents entry
Select "Don't display this item"

That could help. Either that or it disables the My Documents button entirely.

that will only change the start menu but good try though. the only way that your stuff could be on the all programs is if someone dragged it there. if it was just copied there then just delete them or you can drag it back to its orginal location.

well that's the thing. if I drag the items off the start menu, they dissapear from the documents and settings folder also. if I drag them from the start menu to the desktop to the documents and settings folder they appear back at the start menu too :S it's like they're dual located.

Okay, so basically I couldn't see any way round it. Simple solution:

Back my shit up, create a new user account, delete the old one.

Problem Solved.

Formatting is always a last resort. Why did you not just physically move the files? Were they files or just short cuts?

As I stated above, I did move the files off the start menu, to the desktop. When I did they dissapeared off the start menu and from the documents and settings folder. So I moved them into the documents and settings folder, which made them magically appear in the start menu again too. Somehow the files were linked.

You shouldn't have been able to move the Desktop folder to the Desktop, and I don't understand how your Start Menu is located in the Start Menu.

I wasn't able to duplicate your problem but I did notice the majority of my Start menu items are not in my Start Menu folder. I moved one folder in the Programs menu but not in the Programs folder, to the Prgrams folder, and it disappeared and reappeared and existed in both locations. I then deleted the duplicate in the programs menu and moved the one from the Programs folder to the menu and it did not appear in the folder. :S
