I have a strange performance problem with Half-Life 2. I just got my copy today (finally!) and here's what happens:
The game runs at its default settings - the ones the game recommended (everything on high, except reflections "Reflect world", no AA, no AF, no vsync, 1024x768).
I have an Athlon XP 2000+, 1GB RAM, Radeon 9800, integrated sound.
The game runs perfectly on my friend's computer which is exacrtly the same. Well, the game doesn't run perfectly smooth, but it runs as it should (the processor is a bottleneck here).
My problem is - the game runs smooth, but when I turn my head fast, it slows down to 1fps. For example, I move my mouse quickly to the left and the game freezes and after a second and then I see the place where I was trying to look at.
I played the game with AA 4x at my friend's comp, and the performance was even better than without it (which proves the processor bottleneck). When I turn it on on my computer, the game slows down to a crawl - 1fps when looking at big locations. The game runs perfectly when in a small room or, for example, when looking at the back of the train (inside it).
What could be the problem? I have Catalyst 5.6 installed.
