Wrong thread sorry. <--- delete

what drive is it? ive never had to install a disk for sata drives only ide usually. you sure everything is plugged in correctlly?

Buy a cheap external floppy drive or something... They aren't that much.

Or go through JFry's method.

Can you see the drive in the Bios or when you first boot and the list of drives comes up on your screen? If not then you'll need to do something else first.

Either make a custom bootable windows CD with the proper SATA drivers OR get a floppy drive and floppy disk and put the drivers on there (what I have done in the past) OR see if your system can read a USB flash drive while installing Windows.

Basically your windows install doesn't have any SATA drivers (Windows XP was released before SATA was out) so you need to provide it with the SATA drivers for your board. When the WindowsXP install starts it will say at the bottom of the screen to press F6 I believe to specify drivers. Some (I believe with the newer Windows XP discs) don't have to go through this.

If you built the system then the SATA drives are on the motherboard CD. Also, you should be able to download them from your motherboard manufacturer's website.

After that you should be able to see your drive to partition/format/install windows.

Windows does need sata/raid drivers when you boot, which you need a floppy for. Go spend $8 you cheap bastard.

Yeah I can see the drive in BIOS.

And no!!! Ive moved on! Technology should move on with me! (Im saving up for a Kent Armstrong vintage humbucker pickup for my guitar)

Im trying fry's method for now, if that doesnt work isnt it possible to torrent a service pack 2 XP cd and use my original key?

hmmm...is that drive being recognized in the bios? if it is there then windows really might need a driver for it.

im very unsure if a USB floppy or flash drive will work. in that state of installation i doubt windows has usb drivers loaded already.
