Off-Limits, the Half-Life 2 modification which revolves around a three way war between two human groups and a deadly alien, has accelerated onto video format with the newly released Off-Limits Alpha Trailer. And I say “accelerated” because despite the team’s claim that vehicles won’t play a major part in the modification, most of the footage is taken from behind the wheel. Driving sure as hell looks fun. [br] [br] The trailer also demonstrates many of the modifications’ detailed models and animations – it feels great to see some skinned renders actually in a game and not just lying around in some media release. Unfortunately there’s no footage of the alien as of yet, and the same goes for a number of game features including the hefty alien-squasher railgun. A summer trailer has been promised, however. Looks cool the level design. But my god i hate that trailer song!
 
It's from the Spiderman trailer - I really like it. Ochestral and dramatic!
 
Hopefully the released version of the mod isn't that dark. x.x
 
That was a really cool video, the levels look quite big by the looks of things.
 
Didn't really captivate me the way I was hoping it would. The weapons look kinda off to me, but otherwise it's all really spiffy. Either way, it looks good, and I can't wait to try it out.

That's what I was thinking actually.
 
Yeah, the weapon sounds and animations are off (reminds me of the HL2 beta weapons) but otherwise, it looks top-notch.
 
Apart from the weapon sounds this looks pretty sweet. The vehicle chase in the tunnel looked particulary kickass (it's like BF2, but hollywood!).
 
Looks cool, but i'm gonna cry if they dont put in a new engine sound :|
 
Yeh, with new sounds before release it would be awesome - Counter-Strike killer?
Also, the vehicle is coming to a dead stop a few metres after the driver is killed - physics need to be adjusted - some of the animations could use improving too (does anyone even use alternate melee?)
 
Thanks for all the positive comments, this vid shows a lot of our work. As for the sounds and anims, there's only one of our weapon sounds in the vid, and our anims are wip. Making a complete total conversion with so many features is a lot of work, but we're working hard on pretty much everything; bear in mind that this is an alpha ;).

As for the darkness, some of our maps are light, some are dark, but the vid's codec/editing added some too. We have maps where you *can* hide in darkness (although some lighting still needs to be added), this can give the alien an edge over human players. Oh, and the melee smash attack has a very good reason too; we use a weight system that allows you to fully customize your loadout. If you don't want to pack a real melee weapon to have some more weight for other weapons, equipment, and ammo, that's fine. If you then run out of ammo, we thought it'd be fun to be able to use your weapon to smash people's skulls with. Not to mention it'll be our equivalent of Q3's 'humiliation' :p
