I'll wait for the OEM version ..it'll be a lot less than retail

wow..half a year ago they were supposed to be a LOT lower. i wont spend 300 bucks on a graphical os update.

on the other hand: this list looks bull shit (link #1) in germany winxp pro is about $150 bucks instead of 360 on this list, so who knows...

Microsoft Academic Alliance for the win. Vista Ultimate for free for me! :)

Mmmm... I'll be getting mine for free from my roomate. He's thai, he'll get it for like 2 bucks back home and then bring it back. Hooray for piracy. Besides, I already paid too much for XP, and that was with a student discount.

I'll wait and see if my college offers it like they do for Windows XP and Office now ($10). If not, hopfully MS will offer a student/teacher version.

I'm fine with the prices. Software is usually more expensive then the OS it's run on (I never understood this). Remember photoshop is $649. So if you want the Vista: Ultimate you'll pay a premium price. It's like a packaged deal for someone who wants it all.

If you are currently using Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional x64, you are eligible for an upgrade copy to a corresponding or better edition of Windows Vista, but a clean install is required.

Is the only difference between an upgrade and a full CD is that you have to have a older OS installed first to install the new one?

So we have to have the x64 ed to get the upgrade?

Oh sorry, that was just a disclaimer on the bottom of the Microsoft page. Anything from 2000 can be upgraded but if you have x64 or 2000 you have to do a clean install. The original link with upgrade information.

I'm not even sure I'm gonna get this right off the bat..I'm just getting used to XP.. :(

I'm fairly sure you can still download vista for a trial now, my download was corrupt though and haven't been bothered to redownload it since. I don't care how pretty it looks, I'm lazy.
