offline mode

um i started playing halflife 2.....but i have no idea if im playing in offline mode.....how do i know if im in offline mode?....when i clicked on properties of half life it says offline mode ready....1 guy says the icon has to be in red in offline mode...how do i really get in offline mode coz i wanna only play the SP mode....

If your not connected to the net then you should be in offline mode.

If you are connected to then et you should be in online mode.

If you goto HL2 and not HL2DM or Cs:S then you will get singleplayer if your online or offline.

if, when you start your computer, a steam mesage comes up saying
'steam connection error'
and gives you a choice to retry, or go in offline mode.

You are almost always in 'Online' mode (if you have some form of connection to the Internet plugged in). You have to force Steam to go into 'Offline' mode.

Offline mode will only work when your username/password details are stored.

When you are in Offline mode, the Steam icon appears red instead of white in your system tray.

ok 1 question....dont u have to be in online mode to get the updates from steam?....if your playing the game offline what about the updates?

You can start in online to get them then revert back to offline again.

But why would u want to go into offline mode when u have i-net? Unless it's dial-up offcourse.

Steam will only try and update if you're connected to the Internet. If you're not connected, it can't update. I guess it all depends whether you want the updates or not...

You are downloading a patch. You must finish downloading it and then play the game while conected to the internet for a while.

You need 100% of the game, even if you have 99%. You can't play offline.

offline mode is only good for 30 days, at least it was up until a while ago. I know a few people that work overseas without internet, and all of them, after 30 days, could not play HL2. crappy. of course, it worked again as soon as they reconnected to the internet.
