Offline Problem

I try to play HL2 offline, it says the game is Ready and 100%, but when I try to start it, it says " this operation could not be completed while Steam is in Offline Mode"

Any help is appreciated.
TY in advance.

yeah that happened to me for months and months
my solution was always
-open each main steam game after updating
-turn off/reboot computer with internet and steam still running
-do not press end now if that option comes up - the program is saving when that happens

If that doesn't work it should work after you play it online for a few minutes.

Have you actually got an Interent connection?

No, he used the power of is brain to get the updates

Sorry, in a sarcastic moods.

Hey smartarse, it's possible that to verify HL2 he lugged his computer around over to the nearest LAN cafe (or similiar place) and installed it form there. Sorry, grouchy mood

Edit: Wow, what a happy, uplifting and useful 1000th post (X_X)

Sometimes this is a problem that just happens. I always used to think it was down to Valve releasing a fluffed update. It eventually fixed itself for me anyway.

Try what john357numbaz said.

Alright to answer all of your questions.
1. I have an Internet Connection, although due to blocked ports at boarding school I cannot update.
2. I have an Internet connection at home. I updated it there 2 weeks ago. But when I brought it back here it still didn't work. Even though I am already connected to offline mode.
3. I tried to do what he said, but due to blocked ports I could not connect to Steam in Online mode.
So basically, I was wondering what to do.
TY for your responses.

AFAIK this problem only went away for me after the subsequent Steam update. Sorry, but I can't think of anything else you can do. Steam can be a bitch.

I hate Steam. It is so pointless, it was supposed to make it easier, but it made it harder to play games.

only for the minority which includes me sadly although it rarely affects me any more - the majority have benefited enormously
can't you go to a net cafe update there and follow my earlier advice

I've only found problems when it comes to steam. It's never displayed the update progress correctly, and has never started offline mode for me. It is by far one of the glitchiest and most frustrating applications I've ever used... Oh, but HL2 is a great game when it runs. :-P
