well, remember my password is checked, i can start steam offline, just when i try and start hl2 is says its not ready to be played offline

Is there a specific setting on Steam to go Offline or I just have to turn the modem off???

ive been playing hl2 with steam online, if i click on halflife 2 in the my games list chose properties it says offline mode: not ready, how do i get that to ready
Right click on Half-Life 2 in my games list and "create desktop shortcut"
Disable your Local Area Connection (or unplug your modem)
Close STEAM
Double click the new Half-Life 2 icon on your desktop
STEAM will load and try to authenticate, but obviously won't be able to, then will ask you if you want to start in offline mode. Do so.
The game should start just fine ASSUMING you have already unlocked your HL2 files. Let me know if that works :rolling:

dont you think ive tried that, its says on the properties status: requires update, how can that be if i can play it online

Need to be online to setup offline mode? That's terribly ironic. My prediction is that around 4 am this morning (when people finally start giving up) the steam server will be available again.
I'm kicking myself, because I was playing all afternoon and then stupidly decided to quit out and turn off steam. If I ever get back in again, I'll just keep HL2 running 24/7 until I finish the game.
This is very reminiscent of the night EQ launched... the only difference being of course that that was an ONLINE game. I learned my lesson that night though - this time I'm gonna go meet some friends instead of staring at a login screen all night.

look heres the deal, heres what ive been doing
1.i connect, login to steam and play hl2
2.i connect, login to steam then disconnect and play hl2
3.i start steam, use offline mode, double click hl2 in the my games list and it says not ready to play offline
