Yeah. It's supposed to be based more off the story "Who Goes There" which is what The Thing comes from. Dammit I hope they bring back Kurt Russel as R.J. MacReady.

Carpenter doesnt have a good track record for making sequels of his own movies

Wasn't The Thing a modern telling/rewrite of Who Goes There? Apparently, when the latter came out and the dead dogs come spilling out of the cabinet, entire theaters shuddered.
