thuis is the 4th time ive had to reinstall everything AND THIS TIME WHEN I CLICK ON PLAY HALFLIFE 2 it says preparing to play like "normal"(havent got it to work properly yet) and then its estimated update time 4000! MINUITES!!!!

It wont take 4000 minutes it's probably a bug. Leave the computer on for some hour, and when you get back it will probably have updated.

I'd try shutting off the internet connection or switching the PC off to see if that will start it updating again.

it might be bcos u are trying to install hl2 on a different hd maybe??

or that hl2 installed it in the default place.that would be c:\programfiles\valve
instead of where ever your steam folder is..
to fix this go to c:\program files\valve\steamapps and take all the gcfs and stick them in ur MAIN (primary) steam folder..that maybe in C:\program files\steam oki?

that should fix ur problem


and after that restart steam and wait for hl2 and css to update then Enjoy hl2

Ending and restarting a process that has got stuck is sometimes the only way. Connections go down for other reasons all the time, so Steam should be able to cope with this.

Man i have dialup...and it dont take 4000 min..the reason why it says that is becos its downloading the whole hl2 again

unistall the game...then reinstall it then stick the files in crogram files/valve/steamapps into ur main steam folder

prob in crogramfiles/steam

put all the gcfs into steamapps

but im scared that if i stop the download then i will have to do it all over again,,, will it stay at 37% or will it go bck to 0?

Man u shouldnt have to..ur downloading a fresh copy of hl2 its not ment to if u have the retial
