Tin Soldiers And Nixons Comming

We're Finally On Our Own

This summer I hear the drumming!

4 DEAD IN OHIO!!!!!!
4 DEAD IN OHIO>>>>

Erhrm, now for something THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY RESPOND TO!!!!!

Wtf rly happened at kent state? I'm having a hard time justifying the actions of both the protestors and the national guard.

I mean, ffs they burnt down a building, and they expected NOT to get shot?

Then again, if the national guard wanted to shoot something, they should have done it when things were actually VIOLENT.

Whachoo think?

BTW for those of you who suck http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent_State_shootings

Both groups were to blame but the soldiers still shouldn't of fired, i would presume they fired due to the stress of the situation and due to poor training in dealing with such situations. The students though had no excuse for starting the violent situation which turned into the shooting of 4 of the them, if they wanted a peaceful demonstration, they should of listened to the guardsman when they were told to move on and not started throwing rocks and using weapons against the guardsman. That doesn't justify the shooting though. But to be completely honest, the students were the ones who introduced violence to the demonstration - from what the wiki report states.

John Filo got a Pulitzer Prize for that picture? What a rip!

I don't know much about the Kent state stuff, but Ohio rules!

both groups were to blame? since when is the punishment for civil disobedience death? this isnt south/north korea y' know

I never said to blame, but how can you justify the actions of either side.

As I said, the protestors were breaking into stores and burning down buildings, and weren't expecting some sort of violent response?

Then again, the national guard should have shot back when the ROTC building was still burning. From what i've read of the situation, they started shooting once the situation got pretty stagnant.

Uh, we only respond with force for non-civil disobedience. And those who block traffic with LP tanks. And no-one's been shot since the 1950s. Ok, there was that guy who got a 30mm canister rifle round to his head, but that was a verified accident.

I think that the protesters were wrong in burning down buildings, but the national guard should have just tear gassed the entire field, and used water cannons. And seriously, the national guard is like "sunday soldiers" in themselves, with little training, especially on riots. They should have got the proffessionals.

And wait, calling armed soldiers in itself was wrong, because police with bamboo batons could have handled the Kent State rioters well and enough.

But still, you don't loot/burn buildings in the US and not expect to get shot.

I think that the protesting 'tards weer in the more wrong though, since they first started it.

I'm just going to post here so I have a post before it gets locked. Also, 15357, you're offtopic. D:

please provide clear cut evidence that the people who were killed were involved in the burning that happened the night previously ..the students were no threat to armed soldiers ..I dont buy that rediculous "they panicked" justification ..if that were true some of the students wouldnt have been shot while they were running away

since when are inanimate objects more important than human life? ...and again at the time of the shootings they werent rioting/burning buildings

Bad moves all around on this one. Great song, though I wish it didn't take such injustices and wrongs to make great songs/photos/literature/movies, etc.

No offense, but this is OLD.

:P

Sorry, just had to.

Casualties
Killed (and approximate distance from the National Guard):

Allison Krause 343 ft (105 m)
Jeffrey Glen Miller 270 ft (81 m)
Sandra Lee Scheuer 390 ft (119 m)
William Knox Schroeder 382 ft (116 m)
Wounded (and approximate distance from the National Guard):

Thomas Mark Grace 225 ft (69 m; struck in left ankle)
Joseph Lewis 71 ft (22 m; right abdomen and left lower leg)
John Cleary 110 ft (34 m; upper left chest)
Alan Canfora 225 ft (69 m; right wrist)
Dean Kahler 300 ft (91 m; small of back)
Douglas Wrentmore 329 ft (100 m; right knee)
James Dennis Russell 375 ft (114 m; right thigh and right forehead)
Robert Stamps 495 ft (151 m; right buttock)
Donald Scott MacKenzie 750 ft (229 m; neck)

Ok, 100+ meters is a real long distance, even for a rifle. 22 meters is close, but not point blank, even for the rifles, which I would guess as M-14s or M1s. I'd say that they fired in the general direction of rioters, and not aim-fire, which would have resulted in way more chest injuries, for they are trained to aim for the body mass and not the head. Also, rifles are extremely accurate, whcih would indicate that the Guards didn't aim.

Also, if you would look at the killed list, they're all mostly 100+ meters from the Guards, but the wounded are way more close. I'd say that this is an indicator of, again, unaimed fire.

I'm the one that said that D:

@ Raz: Yeah, I know, but i've just been listening to the song allot lately, and I started researching what happened, and then I figured i'd make a thread :)

@ Numbers: Sandra Lee Schauer wasn't even in the group of protesters. She was walking from one class to the next when she was shot.

I'd think you'd need to aim to hit somebody not inside of the group.
