Who are you voting for in this election on Monday January 23 and explain why?

For me, it's the NDP. Why? Jack Layton is the ONLY one talking about PEOPLE in this election...the actual people...not just "big tax cut here and big tax cut here and spend more money, blah, blah, blah." I think he really did a great job this time unlike last time. So for me it's NDP. And I actually like Jack Layton. If you watched on CBC, when Peter Mansbridge interviewed all the leaders for an hour and people got to ask the questions to the leaders, Jack Layton really did a good job talking to the people, and actually made the people laugh. While Stephen Harper has a personality of a door knob and Paul Martin is getting tied up with his own words.

So that's who I'm voting for...your turn. ;)

NDP as well, because the liberals have proven inept and I'd rather inhale someone else's vomit than vote conservative.

As a bonus, they're good for college students such as myself.

I probably speak for many Americans when I say...lolwtfbbq

Why would you vote liberal when you know that they are incompetent(apparently) and regret voting for them? Its not like you have to vote for the Liberals in contempt for the Conservative Party when there are 4 large parties and I assume NDP is a lot like the Liberal Party, but without the suck.

Of course, you could always vote for your fellow Frenchies.
Come on Canada! You know you can't live without the Bloc.

i already voted Liberal.
it wasn't the choice i wanted to vote for (NDP was my choice) but that lead which has increased for the PC made me fear a majority PC government and thats when i decided i could live with what the Liberals do or don't do versus having the PC in power at all.

You should have at least put an "Other" option, there are other parties besides those four. I'm probably throwing my vote away to the Greens..

It's more complicated than simply voting for the best party. You have to consider who's going to win in your riding. In my riding, we have a candidate for NDP, Green, Liberal, and Conservative, and as it stands right now, it's between Liberal and Conservative. So who am I going to vote for? Well, not Green, and not NDP, because not enough people will vote either of them in here. And I'll be damned if I ever vote Conservative (read: Neo-Con), so I'm voting for the only non-Conservative candidate that might actually win.

I'm basically trying to prevent the Conservatives from getting a relative majority representation in the House of Commons. If I could elect whomever I wanted, it would be the NDP, full stop, but I can't do that.

Alright, time for the token ignorant American moment:

what exactly does NDP stand for?

Steven Harper's conservative party is pretty much equivalent to the George Bush presidency, so I think you can see why so many folks are like "oh hell no".

The liberals are alright in theory, but they've been in office for decades (mostly thanks to their not being conservative).
The problem is that their constant success has led to some (relatively mild, IMO) corruption in their ranks.
So now conservatives have more support than usual.

The NDP lean somewhat more to the left than the liberals and, frankly, they're the best choice for most people. The problem is they are the "third party".
Think of Nader with good ideas and about thirty times more success, and you get the idea.
Folks generally don't vote for them because, like in the previous american election, NDP votes would just weaken the liberals and make the conservatives more likely to win.

I think though, that if all the people who are voting Liberal just to spite the conservatives were to vote NDP instead, the NDP'd win in a landslide.
So, towards that goal, I'm voting for them.

C'mon Stern and Mullinator, go "4" it! :p

I wish that there were a two-stage election.
First, you vote who should GTFO and then you vote between the finalists.

heh, well I havn't totally decided yet anyway so who knows I may change to NDP anyway. :p

I also agree that we need a new and somewhat unique system sometimes. Personally i always thought a ranking system would work well. I think almost everyone would rank the NDP second and the first place rankings would be split between conservative and liberal.

Ranking a party first gives them 3 points, second gives 2, and third gives 1. Or something like that.

i wish that was true...but i don't think it is.
people are not voting to "spite" the PC...more like Canadians are afraid of the "new world order" type agenda the PC always seem to have.

i think for the NDP to have any real shot in the long term future of Canadian politics, Canadians need to totally ignore the PC and be willing to give the NDP or even the Green Party a chance to show what they can do.

I'd wote NDP is I didn't resent the fact that they HELPED the Conservatives get into power by toppling the government. That, plus they haven't a chance of being official opposition.

Therefore I'm voting for the Liberals. The devil that you know is better than the one you don't.

I may regret it later but I just came back from voting NDP. It felt good voting for the first time in my life.

I can't legally vote but I like the NDP. As long as the conservatives don't win, it's all good.

Bloc here but don't blame me.. The war here in Quebec City is against Conservatives and Bloc. Voting Bloc is voting for What I want AND against Conservatives so I'm happy happy (unless cons gets in... crappy rednecks.)

Lefties FTW!!

Bloc of course.

Harper is a French hating redneck while the Liberals are not more than a legal mafia.

yeah. a minority government with a strong opposition and a socialist party twice as powerful as last time.

It'll last maybe 2 years, and they'll be unable to implement any extreme right-wing legislation because the combined numbers of the Liberals and the NDP outnumber them, and the Bloc Quebecois is socially liberal as well.

They'll have to play it 'liberally' if they want to get anything done. :p

Hmm, conservatives weren't content with f**king up the U.S. so they decided to spread their love to other regions.

I thought that at the begining of 2006 it was made clear that voting right wing is being an ignorant egoist:rolling: ... Oh well, some people just don't get it. Let's see how you manage to bring up your anti-social ideas against 1 liberal and 2 socialist parties.:sniper:

In the US you would celebrate if your party had won. However in Canada it is possible to have minority governments which totally change things. This government may only last a couple months before another election. Even if they do last longer however they will have to make a lot of deals with the left leaning parties if they have any desire for survival.

This isn't exactly a victory for anyone, right or left leaning. Besides, it is blatantly obvious to anyone in Canada that this does not mean that Canadians are more right leaning that we used to be. Far from it, they only voted conservative as a way of venting frustration for scandals. The stronger left leaning parties certainly makes it obvious to me.

Im so glad I live in a country with more than two main parties, and where the opposition can actually make a difference. Parliamentary system FTW.
