OK I'm taking the family to Toronto in August for the Caribana festival. I'm trying to buy a decent GPS system, which I would like to use on my trip (Yes, we're driving, it's only 11 Hrs from Virginia).
Also the GPS will be used for Big-Rig (18 wheeler) I'm also seasonal truck driver so, it must have, truck navigation option for weight and clearance restrictions.

I know nothing (And I mean Nada!) when it comes to GPS and, why one costs a whole lot more than the other.

This is what I have selected so far http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16858108055 .

I don't know why it costs $500.00 but I like it; because it costs $500.00.

I'm planing to buy it with, "The no payment for 90 days" plan so, price has to be around $500.00 or less (preferably less).

Please let me know if this is an overkill and post your inputs and explain why you like your choice better than mine.

Also GPS must have all the bells and whistles and must be able to show me where the prime minister lives and where the next Tim Horton is.

Thanks In advance.

Wow! I thought I was the only GPS illiterate here.

16 viewers and not a single replier?

Anyone?

I'm not familiar with what is currently out there. I've just used an older Garmin GPS before.

You put in your destination for your trip and it calculates by best time or miles. You can put in way points and it will take those into consideration when making the path. If you want to go someplace before you get to your destination you can add a place (has list of restaurants, hotel etc or enter any address manually) and it will make a detour for you but won't erase your final destination. You can load previous routes and save address as favorites.

The main screen showed the map and will zoom in and out with the next turn always in view. Will say when your turn is coming up. The 2nd screen had basic status info like how far you have traveled so far, your average speed, max speed, the next exit coming up and how many miles ahead it is etc. 3rd one showed a list of directions like if you went to map quest and printed out text directions such as "Turn left on 1st street" etc.

I still use a Garmin GPS12 for GPS work. Maps, routes, etc. are done with a combination of Google Earth, TOPO, and GPS Utility at home before going out, but my trips are independent of each other so this works okay. I haven't used a new GPS device though.

Sorry no help here i use the sun in the day and the north star at night. Works great never got lost yet.;)

Thanks a lot fellas...

I did order the one in my link. I will review it once I receive it. It also says it can play MP3 files too.
I think its also designed for for the usage of big-wheels because it has the option which you can enter the length and weight of the vehicle driven.
$500.00 is the mid range price for these devises as some may cost you as much as a $1000.00.

Thanks again.
