old CS/ new CS:S : de_dust2

cool, interesting comparisons. CS:S looks so much better. :D

why are all the crates being replaced by wrecked cars? seems funny to me.
 
Looks very nice... Is it raining in the new dust? I think the trees are a nice addition, as well as removal of the ads on the walls. The map seems a lot more spread-out now, perhaps they made it bigger? Do I smell rooftop access? (the last pic)
 
I think it looks a bit dismal. I remember dust to be bright and sunny, not dark and rainy. Dont get me wrong, i mean the graphics are ace.

I dont think it is dark and raining in the new dust i think its just the pictures but well see :D

I'm in doubt they'll give rooftop access in dust2/aztec/etc. That'd completely change how those levels are played..

And I highly doubt you'll be able to climb that pyramid's steps
 
I love the extra objects and buildings in the backround. Even if you cant access them, they give depth and make you feel like your in a town as opposed to just a small area.

Many people who played CS:S playable version a week ago tried climbing up the pyramid, and they failed. If it was climbable, it'd be a heck of camping spot. :(
 
I think the maps will remain the same (as Shuzer said), if they change the levels they'd change the dynamic, and no doubt more people would complain than praise. Plus they've made the point of telling everyone that this is basically a port and any 'expanding' can be done afterwards.
 
Nice. Wonder how Source's material properties will influence the new maps, if at all... (yes, I'm still bitter at all those times I've been capped through a damn wall).

I saw they put more "camping spots" in the source maps. Hopefully these won't become bothersome.

Yeah sure does look nicer. Maybe some cars shouldn't be all torn down :)
 
yeah I like all the cars being around, nice barrier for players. But yeah the differences in De_Dust 2 are too many to name. Looks wicked.
 
The environment just looks sweet even if the vid's are with Digi-cams.I hope they release some binks this week.
 
The new maps in CS:S look great. They look more realistic. Not realistic just as in graphic wise, but the things and detail they added. They just look more like a place you would find in real life. Like de_dust and de_dust2 look more like a village, and actually look dusty now. And de_aztec looks more hydrated.

I hate it when I get shot through crates :|

I think the new maps look 10x better, more ... realistic. More like real life, where you can go almost anywhere.
 
I can guarantee you will still be able to shoot through walls. I could explain the reasons why I am so certain of this, but I must go poop now.
 
cool, i cant wait for this to come out! it looks so much better than the normal CS but itl probably give you a totally different NON CS type feeling. oh well.
 
Yeah I'm kind of worried about that too. It maight feel like a different style game...
 
From the videos, and impressions I've heard, people say it feels exactly like CS.. which is why alot are let down. Personally, sounds great to me
 
CS:Source is more like a gift for CS fans as opposed to a game that will recruite loads of new gamers (though i'm sure some will). Thats fine with me :)

Part of the reason it will feel the same is because its has the same gun models as CS 1.6, but it will have different sounds. This was confirmed from a guy who visited valve some time ago (theres a thread about it).

I hope the physics for the beat up cars will be the is the same as the cars in the 2k3 HL2 bink video. Remember the one where Gordon hid behind three or four cars from a small helicopter? The choper started shooting at him and the car had its doors and rims flinging back and forth. That would be wicked awsome in CS.
 
I'm more interested in the custom maps that can be created than the maps in the initial release.

On-topic: It really looks nice and if its true CS:S has the same feeling, it'll be great.
I'm just a bit disappointed that all the maps, though luch better now, still have a 'square' feeling.
