just built a new machine and so bought a new copy of hl2/css for it.
install wouldn't let me create a new account, as i already have one
fair nuf, installed/validated/updated no probs.
the account on the old machine is now dead..
emailed support, they responded with " no support account found"
tried to set up one, "account already in use"...
ffs, just want to replay hl2 on my new toy while my boy plays css on the old box. did a search here, didn't find an answer..

errm, waiting for a reply from valve, and thought maybe one of you knowledgable chaps may have a solution. thanks.

Why would you buy a new copy of HL2? You don't really need to. If you had HL2 previously, you could log in to Steam under your old account, and HL2 would be on Steam. You can:

1. Log on under the old account, with HL2 there.
2. Create a new account, under a different email address, and install your new copy of HL2 there.

You can't move your copies between accounts or somesuch.

eh. i thought because i wanted the game to be run on 2 machines at the same time, i needed 2 copys.

Ah, yes, if you want it on both, you need two copies.

Sorry, let me just clarify. You bought a second copy of HL2, and when trying to load it, you ran the same account it was already on, and that account now does not work on the old PC?

If thats the case, log out of steam on which ever PC the new copy is for, uninstall steam, and run through the install again. You need to create a new account to run the new copy. If it won't let you create a new account, you need to figure out why, because its that thats causing your problem.

Also: the username and password for the steam support module is completely different from your steam username and password !

thanks for the replys,
yes, i installed a 2nd copy onto a 2nd machine using the one account.
this has dissabled the game on the first pc.
it wouldn't let me create a new account on the 2nd install because i used
the same email ( i only have/use one and thought it would be ok)
does this mean both serial numbers will by tied to that email?
will it let me reinstall/validate the new copy using a new email/account ?

thanks again

No, steam won't allow you to add a second copy of the same game to an account. You will need to create a new account with a new email address (Just make a hotmail one for the purpose). Just run through the install, create a new account with the new email when it asks and away you go. The old machine should let you log in with the old account (Or the new one) but you won't be able to log on to both machines with one account. Just choose which account you are going to use for which machine, set them up and make sure you keep to the correct machine/account and you should be sorted.

made a new email account.
reinstalled on new machine and created a new account.
all good now, thanks very much ppl.
