Yesterday I sold my old computer to my roommate, which had a X800XL AGP in it. Today, he is not getting any picture with it. I tried hooking up my monitor to the computer and used a different VGA cord, both to the same result. The only game he played between then and now was Sid Meier's Pirates, and there was no graphical corruption. The only things that happened were that today when he got back from work, found that he could not wake the computer from sleep mode. After he restarted, he played Pirates for a little while, but then it locked up and here we are. If the card is dead like I think it is, does anyone know what might have caused this? Also, could it be the mobo's AGP slot that is fried?

I never use sleep mode or hibernate because in the past I have occasionally had issues with my PCs freezing or BSOD when waking them up. But the hardware was fine. /shrug

Did he use the PC in the same manner that you did? Have you tried a different video card or tried that card in another machine? A lot of times simply turning the PSU switch OFF for half a minute solves strange issues where it won't turn on properly.

I misspoke when I said sleep, I really mean the monitor power save mode.

As for him doing anything different, I highly doubt it. He doesn't know enough about computers to do anything more than I would.

We don't have another card available, but we might have another computer. We will try it later.
