Personally I very rarely listen to modern music and when I do it's only ever metal from the early 90's.
Which do you prefer?
Discuss.

What do you mean by "new"?

if you mean post-00's, then no, I'm not particularly fond of it, but if you mean post-90's then I'd have to say definatley...in fact I don't listen to any music made before 1990 for my personal enjoyment.

New. Old music is good, but there is always new music to be had.

New.

Older stuff is good, but the new is where it's at. New ways to change it up, make music, create new sounds, create new lines, sequences, beats.

I like the 50s - early 90s.....some stuff from 90-04..but not much.

Old. You simply can't match some of THE best bands ever when it comes to rock.

Dire Straits
Status Quo
Fleetwood Mac
Whitesnake
The Knack
Mike and the mechanics
etc etc etc etc etc

With nearly all my music it depends when / where... But if you're talking pre '00s then older music is alot better - But some gems still seep through.

However if you're talking about classical music, its even better when its been written in the past 30 years.

I'm stuck in the 90's, but they aren't exactly old.

I listen to more new than old, but I value both about the same.

i prefer old rock, but i prefer new electronic music

I like a variety of stuff. No need to be a narrow minded prick with everything.

I love the modern bands like Muse, Placebo, Lost Prophets, QOTSA etc, but I also love to still listen to Cream, Jimi Hendrix's work and Nirvana who are all legendry. So I would say equal

Impossible for me to say. I haven't heard at least half of anything 'new' and the same for anything 'old'

Looking at my favourite artists/bands, though, I guess I prefer newer stuff..

Almost all my favorite artists came from the late 80's and onwards, producing some of the best music I've ever heard all throughout their careers.

Modern music, by far. The "old greats" never mattered much to me, and I don't buy into nostalgia.

Old, although there is some pretty brilliant new music out there

You see, thats the problem, everybody has a different defition of "new" and "old". A person is more than likely to call their favorite music "new" because of the frame of reference, no matter what time period (unless its say, before 1950 or something)

I like 'em both. I listen to much more new stuff, but there's some absolutely incredible older material as well.
