I just went out and bought a "Creative Zen Micro" and all I can say is, well, nothing... my mouth won't shut. It's completely awesome... 5GB, LCD screen, touch pads, blue LED backlights, etc... just wow.

It look VERY secksie, I mean, I hold it in my hand and I look like a professional. It's very small for such a great package. It's about one-palm-width tall and one-half-palm-width wide.

It's touch pads are VERY sensitive, however, even on low... that's the only downside. You try to scroll though the menus and you only wanna go one option but end up clicking of something else. Then you have to go back and try again. Even the firmware didn't help much...

:(

All this for 189.99 and my local Walmart... very nice deal.

Just thought I'd share my excitement... :D

Cool... but you know... 5GB is half my collection... I'd never need so much space on a portable :D

I am a proud owner of a black one of these. Apparently they are quite unreliable though. Buttons can become unresponsive and the battery life is quite short.

Other than that they are iPod beaters.

Yea, I know what you're saying. I mean, I see these iPods that have 40GB storage. C'mon, do you really need that much? Wait, I'll answer that for you. No.

Edit: I have a black one, too! :D

I love the Least Played mode. It allows you to find some real classics that you forget you have. It also acts as a babe magnet. The amount of random girls who have come up to me to ask to touch it is phenomenal.

Naturally I ask "Touch what?"

"Touch... it?"

Haha, I'm gonna have fun with this one...

I think you're misinterpreting them insulting your "micro" thing... and I don't mean your MP3 player. :O

I don't think I have a comeback to that. You win.

I got a Creative Zen Touch. IIRC it's a bigger and bulkier design than the micro, but I get 20Gb of stuff on there (40 Gb ones are also available) and a very healthy 24 hours of battery life. I agree that the touch interface is a bit fiddly. It supports only mp3's and wma's, but then what pansy bothers with anything else? :p

Like with all mp3 players, there are horror stories about it crashing to death and buttons dropping off, but I've had it a month now and it hasn't even frozen up or needed a reset once - which is a minor glitch that is supposed to be very common, yet I haven't encountered it. Good stuff.

2 things.
1. Great purchase my man. :) I too have one and I love it.
2. Firmware you say? I have yet to update my firmware, and its awesome. What does the firmware update even change?

I got mine for $175 + no tax. :) What colour did you end up getting? I got the Citrus Orange and it is lovely..

Can it play games? Can you watch movies?.......NO!!

Therefore PSP > Creative Zen Micro.

Actually, I'd be happy with a 40GB iPod. I have a 20GB, and I'm slowly but surely filling it up. I've had it for a couple of months now, and it's at 8 GB right now. I know that in the future, I could fill this up and then some.

By the way, I've played with a zen at Best Buy, and I find the iPod's controls are 100x simpler.

Edit: Not to mention that you can also use the iPod as a hard drive to swap files, store files, etc. Therefore, more capacity = ability to store more data.

Well, my local Walmart only had the black color and I didn't wanna wait for an online store to ship it, i.e. Newegg. So, of course, I bought the black one. The black one is really nice looking yet I would have prefered the steel-looking one for a few reasons.

The black kinda looks out of place... I mean all the rest of the player is white so it's kinda wierd. Also, the lock button on top and the writing on the back is gray-ish so if I had gotten the gray colored one, everything would have matched... eh, I'm like that.

EDIT: Bleh, I've just gotten one wicked awesome MP3 Player and I'm already getting doubts about the color... THE COLOR... jeez, I'm like that sometimes... dunno why...

Mmmm, I love the sexy white color of the iPod.

This is mentioned in the features of some mp3 players, and some people boast about their players doubling up as portable HDs...but really can't ANY mp3 player do this? Even if they don't support storage of various file types, surely all you have to do is change the file extension on something to mp3, which takes all of 5 seconds. Doesn't that work?

Yeah I've got the bigger, fatter version of the Micro - A Creative Zen Touch. Bit on the bulky side but 24 hour battery life, 20GB and looks nice too :) Served me well so far. I wish the Zen Touch's had all the different colour options though :(

My friend had a zen micro... and it broke within a few weeks :p

He got an iPod after, and he's had it for a good few months now with no complaints whatsoever

I've never seen one of these Zen Micros... I've never even heard about them before now. Most people i know use ipods. And of course me and me 1337hax0r PSP.

I just want a shoddy, cheap, Hong Kong one right now. I don't have enough songs to justify getting something more than $50.

I think mp3 players are just unreliable in general, at this stage. I've got friends whose ipods have died and I've seen customer reviews complaining about their Zen kicking the bucket. I also saw one customer review slagging off Creative for selling him a Zen that died in a week and that he was going to buy an ipod...and it was later edited to say that his ipod died too.

Some Rio players have also been blasted for cacking out in a short period.

I think that whatever you buy you just have to hope you'll be lucky and you won't get a dud.

My 30GB Creative Zen owns yours, also with it's custom case from http://www.vajacases.com, with custom embossed lettering too.

Not to mention that you can also use the iPod as a hard drive to swap files, store files, etc. Therefore, more capacity = ability to store more data.
I think you can do that with all Creative players too.

Who cares what colour, get a good custom cover for it so it won't get scratched.

I'm on my 2nd iPod now, and love it. I cant stand all the hype around them though, makes me ashamed to have one.

iPods are great if all you want it music, and you dont care about extra features.

I was referring to the comment about not needing a 40GB iPod. Not necessarily the iPod alone as a hard drive, but the 40GB is nice as a hard drive.

Well, I didn't exactly buy a MP3 player thinking I could use it to store files... *long pause*

I have a Sony Portable Diskman, which is actually an MP3 player and you can switch the tape in it :)

But I regret not buying a iPod or Zen touch :(

Neither did I. However, it is a nice feature to have.

I've got a Sony Mini Disk player and am looking for an IPOD but thats only because i like the control system. nothing more and nothing less

ive got an ipod, i was gonna get a creative zen touch but the sound on the ipod was better quality and you get a decent set of headphones with it.

And it was cheaper :E

i love creative. i have a creative zen touch and it rocks.

Im gonna be getting me one of the full-size ones. But excellent purchase!!! Heard they are great!

PSPs are better... but are more expensive, and I am afraid someone might take it if I try to bring it to school, and listen to music. Yeah... teacher, or some stupid kid would probably. That is why I want an MP3 player, so I don't have to be as careful. Perhaps I should get an Ipod or Zen Touch.

Yes that's what I like to hear! Down with bandwagons! (The ipod)

Bandwagon or not, the iPod is still a quality MP3 player. Given the choice, I wouldn't choose any other. But that doesn't mean that other MP3 players are horrible.

I've got to say I prefer my Zen (obviously I'm biased). The 20GB iPod (I think it's the 4th gen one so I'm not sure if there's any new ones) had a pretty shitty battery life. One thing I love about iPod's is the circle thing to navigate menus. Works wonders, and is really easy to get to grips with. It took me a few days to get used to the Zen Touch.

Hrm, My 4th gen iPod has excellent battery life. I believe that the 4th gen got a good battery upgrade.

As long as everyone is happy with their DAP, all is good. And, Q_onfused, I didn't mean to sound like I was trolling earlier, I was just poking fun at your color situation.
