The "INPUT NOT SUPPORTED" happened to me. Update to Directx 9.0c, later it worked for me.

i have updated to directx 9.0 and no luck.

i click on the HL2 shortcut and it prepares to launch then the Cancel button will gray out and nothing else will Happen.

any more info plz?

I aint no technical person, but are you sure its DirectX 9.0 c

I don't know if there are different versions of 9.0, but make sure anyways.

Lol - a graphics card is part of the OUTPUT side of your PC (it OUTPUTS info to to your monitor), not input. So why would you but a new graphics card to solve THAT error? I could understand if you bought a new one because you knew yours was old and cap, but NOT because of an "input error", as you claim.

Input is things like mouse and keyboard etc. IF the input error is really the root of your problem, then I would look at those and their drivers. Also, are you trying to use a gamepad / joystick? (If so, what is wrong with you?)

If you have an LCD screen it could be that the screen is barfing at the res, etc. that the card is outputting to it. I get this on my Acer AL1714 screen. The give-away is that the message window is quite unlike the usual Windows/Steam messages (mine wanders around the screen bouncing off the edges).

Try cutting your resolution in options. Maybe try cutting it in Windows as well, just to experiment...

Ehm you're all thinking too hard.

Run the game with "-width 800 -height 600" in the launch options.
