Knew this for a while, and sorry if its been posted before!

'Electrical equipment in sleep mode used roughly 7TWh of energy and emitted around 800,000 tonnes of carbon'...ouch.
'Some of these standby modes for televisions use two-thirds of the electricity that it would if it were on.' Enough said?

Ive kind of become obsessed with turning all the switches off nowadays, anyone else do the same?

I've become obsessed with turning everything off too, since I'm now paying my own bills (actually, I have a top-up card for electricity), and I heard a long time ago that a TV on standby uses more electricity than a computer.

Yeah we've been brought up to turn evertying off instead of standbying it.

I rarely keep anything on. I used to, until I realized how much it's costing.

Thing is, I'm kinda paranoid, where we used to live, we had a massive electricity bill, because one of our neighbors (a crazy old man) had hooked up some things to our power supply, without us knowing, so he was using loads of power.

I tend to shut everything off when I go out for long periods now, damn old people. :frown:
