Well I recieved a phone call from one of my other good friends telling me that my friend is in utah going to boarding school. I had no clue why/when this happened. Apparently his parents took him at 5 in the morning last night to the airport, with nothing but a duffle bag. The reason (which i believe is true) that he is in utah now in boarding/military school, is because he is a very emotional person. He is bi-polar and has family problems. He is also suicidal. Its just really rough to lose a friend for at least a year, and i didnt even get to say goodbye to him. In fact no one could have, he is not allowed any contact with anyone.
I just dont understand why it had to be like this, weve been friends since 3rd grade. Its going to be very hard, but i really hope that this helps him, and makes him a better person.

Well at the least hopefully it'll help him resolve some of his issues and such that you said troubled him. Some good stuff for life in the future.

He deserved what he got. Plain and simple. He was an asshole to everyone, disrespected his parents and friends, and was a selfish dick. He has needed help for the longest time. I just don't understand why they had waited so long.. I have been friends with him just as long as you, but I have grown apart from him over the past couple years.. He has just become a bigger, faker asshole/dick than ever before. I'm glad I noticed this and am not caught up in the drama such as the people that are still his friends.

The funny thing though is that this kid was suicidal when everything was perfectly fine. Taking him away from everyone without saying goodbye and not being allowed to stay in touch could quite possibly make him actually kill himself.

I do admit that it was a horrid idea to just have him pack up and leave. But if he had prior knowledge, he would have ran away to one of the millions of emo kids', on myspace, houses.

I was going to type something in response to that bashing of our friend, but I wont. If you want to throw away your friendship with him, go ahead but I understand all the things hes done. He is very troubled, and has hurt friends and his family, but all he needs is a little help. I will miss him greatly.

Throw away my friendship? He threw it away himself. I was once best of friends with him. Like I said, the last couple of years he has become such a dick. I just stopped talking to him. He kept acting like a complete whore. No point to stay friends with someone that is mentally unstable especially if its someone such as him.

Wow, surely it's a bit dangerous to sign up such an unstable sounding person to carry a gun. Anyway, You should speak to his parents to try to get a contact number for him or some other way of contacting him, and tell them that Esquire said they're hypochondriacs.

Thats the thing though, I dont think that hes allowed any contact with anyone, I believe that he has to earn certain things at this enw school, such as phone calls, music, his guitar etc.

how is the military going offer any comfort and suport to an emotional guy who has bi-polar disorder? ...how is the military going to help him at all ?

some people need discipline in their life. some parents cant give it, or cant properly discipline because the kid is a little shit to begin with. when you eat breathe and sleep military you learn something way more valuable than two spineless parents could ever teach you.

I had to spend 3 years at a private boarding school, and i had a blast. It's like college almost, at least mine was.

for those who don't know what bi-polar disorder is...well its quite easy to say "hes a dick and blah blah blah" but u don't realize is that the younger the person, the more difficult it is to deal with such a disorder.

i know someone who has it with a combination of other mental/physical problems and let me tell u, its no walk in the part to say the least.

anyway not sure how the military could help with this but good luck to this fellow.

The military doesn't sound like the best way to treat someone with bipolar.

Bryan, your sig is a joke, right?

Anyway, this move might give the kid what he needs, even if it isn't the best course of action.

whats bipolar?

Its a form of depression I think, I can't remember.

A change of lifestyle may help overcome depression, but I dunno if being called 'Private Pile' for a few years will help. :|

I really hope they arern't going to be as tough to him as that drill sergeant was to Pile in that movie...........

Bipolar Disorder (AKA "Manic Depression") is a condition in which a person goes through frequent and major changes in their attitude/disposition without reason (so, something like being a really happy person and becoming depressed when a loved one dies does not count). It consists of alternating manic (high) and depressive (low) states. In extreme cases the person can go from a catatonic depressive state in which they don't move or even respond to environmental stimulii for hours on end directly into a manic frenzy of action (sometimes including self-mutilation or other violent acts) within a matter of seconds.

A lot of famous writers/musicians/artists/etc suffered from varying degrees of bipolar disorder... perhaps using their craft as an outlet for their manic episodes. Although, as a downside, during manic episodes they are prone to extremely irritability, poor judgement, aggressive behavior, drug use, denial, ADHD-like symptoms, insomnia, etc. I'm sure you're probably aware of the effects of depression, so there's no need to mention those characteristics. In extreme cases they can even have symptoms reminiscent of schizophrenia that coincide with their current state (believing you have superhero-like abilities when you're in a manic episode).

Oh, and they're not allowed to treat people like the the stuff you see in Full Metal Jacket... well... not anymore. Now, IIRC, the drill instructors aren't even allowed to curse at the people they are training. Instead, they have to say gay stuff like "dadgum" and "frickin." That's what I hear from a friend that's been in the Marines for a few years. I had also seen people saying stuff like that on an episode of a History channel (I think it was the History channel) reality TV show about some sort of military training... but, at the time, I thought they were just doing it for the camera.
